Alright Stock Highbeam 9011 Will 9005 Work?

As usual I relied on my brain instead of my O/M. I ordered a set of Silverstars 9006 and 9005 due to the fact that all the gm's use these bulbs. When I got my bulbs and went to install the highbeams I looked at the OEM bulb and it was a 9011, rated at 65 watts. The silver 9005 is rated at 60 watts. Any of you pro's want to help me out. I went ahead and installed the 9005's and will see how the do. Any advice as always would be greatly appreciated and a belated Happy holidays to everyone.

I have 9005 for high beams but I have also done the all 4 on high mod.You might have noticed that with the 9005's do not fit tight,if you tighten the 3 torx screws around the socket they will fit snugly.

Thanks a mil S. Judson. I read your post and zipped out before dark and those housings were really loose. Tightened up and everything is hunky-dory. I love these sights. If you take the collective money saved by sharing info you could probably get the gross national debt down to a couple of Trillion instead of a 100 Trill. Thanks again.

fireout,

I'd suggest getting the Xenon 893 bulbs for your foglights and 4157NALL's for your DRL's. Both are much better than the stock bulbs!!

Great advice. I have the 4157 and am looking for 885's for the fogs. Want to adjust them up a hair. Waiting til dark to go out and try my new silverstars. Another 20 minutes or so then out I go..

I changed the lows (Silverstars) instead of the high's, just waiting for sylvania or another manufacturer too come out with a comperable hi-beam replacement. I do agree that the Fogs definitely need to be upgraded to the 50 watters, makes a huge difference.

I am heading out to check it out. I found the set of silverstars on ebay. Couldn't refuse so The highbeams will be the question mark. Heading out to my high end autoparts looking for the 885's. Couldn't find any on ebay or even the more populated auto parts websites. Did you adjust your fog heights?

885 50 Watt Fogs

I bought mine off of this guy

so the stock bulbs in the fog lights are 894's right at 35 watt and the 885's are the same only 50 wats? I want to order some for mine also, anyone have any problems with the fog housings melting though with the hotter bulbs?

You don't want to replace the 9011's as they are actually brighter than any of the aftermarket bulbs.  Stock fogs are 880's or 881's?  I have 893's at 37.5 watts, that's the max the housing was validated for.  885's will work, haven't heard any melting stories yet.  I'll be back with a good link on lighting.
