Amber DRL Question: What does this mod do? I don't understand.

What does the "Amber DRL" mod do?

Does it

(1) Cause the parking lights to come on TOGETHER WITH the DRLs when the DRLs come on?

Or does it

(2) "Override" the DRLs so the don't come on at all and cause the ONLY the parking lights to illuminate?

I looked at the pictures, but I can't really tell what "mode" these Avs are in (i.e. automatic day-time mode, automatic night time mode, manual headlight mode, manual parking light-only mode?)

What I would like to do is just have the DRLs come on, but I want them to be amber, not "white." I would guess that this would entail putting in an amber blub, right?

I guess the next alternative would be to have the DRL mode to be set to just cause the parking lights to come on and not the DRLs.

As you can tell, I like the amber look and don't know sh*! about electonics. I am also a little afraid to mess with the electronics of the Av. I understand that there are instructions posted on HOW TO DO the mod, I just don't understand what it does.

The Amber DRL identify you has a member - change out the bulbs to ambers. That's mod one.
Now mod two would be to have the DRL on day or night. That's the full-time DRL mods.

The Amber DRL's dont do anything but look cool :cool: And they also let other members know you are one of us, when we see you on the road.

MY AVALANCHE looks VERY KEW !! AND I don't have ambers, BUT I HAVE SOM !!! Its SOM Beautiful!! Its really SOMthing to look at !! ;) :love: (y)
 
Okay, I think I got it. (1) Change the blubs to amber = look cool but doesn't change stock functionality of the lights. (2) The more complex mod runs the DRL's with the normal "night time" headlights, which = cool x 2.

I'll start searching on the site for what kind of blubs to buy.

The follow up: What is "SOM"?

I can't help myself with this with;

SOM = SOM guy in New Foundland that is really SOM kind of KEWL!

He has SOM KEWL Avalanche.

He's working on getting SOM really KEWL Brakes.

And finally, he's SOM kind of guy! ;)

I think it stands for Sunset Orange Metallic! :eek:

Just bought some silverstars. I will give you all an update once I get them in. Now that I am in the loop & flying the jolly-roger, I can look for other club-ers on my daily commute.

:)Just popped in the Silverstars. It was surprisingly easy, although I haven't seen them illuminate yet, as it is night time. Will update tomorrow! :)

FT-DRL is a simple 10 - 15 mins (matter of speaking) one-wire move.

The full time DRL mod was not a "one-wire move" on my '03. It was rather simple, though. Involves a few cheap parts from RadioShack.
