  • Amish Inns and Christmas Cookie Tour on Sunday December 14, 2014.  The 12 Inns are open for the tour from 12:30 to 6:00 p.m.  Anyone else want to go?  I'm thinking we might want to do a group supper (if we aren't full of cookies) at the end of our tour.

Tickets ($35 per person) went on sale today and can be purchased from the site.  Proceeds from the ticket sales are being donated to charity.

    From the web site:

Inns of Amish Country, dressed up and decked out for the holidays, will present this classic Christmas carol, featuring the whimsical ?12 Days of Christmas? quilt by master quilter, Loretta Coblentz.  During the month of December, the exterior of each inn will be adorned with a breathtaking quilt-block square and visitors are welcome to tour the inns all month long to see these giant quilt-block installations.  During the cookietour, Mrs. Coblentz will display her one-of-a-kind masterpiece and share with visitors her quilting techniques using felted wool applique and embroidery embellishments.
At each stop on the two-day self-guided tour satisfy your sweet tooth with delicious indulgences including Diamond Ring Cut-Out Cookies, Old World Swiss Cookies, Gooey Red Velvet Butter Cookies, Russian Teacakes, Mocha Truffle Cookies, and more.  The inns will offer inspirational decor and festive music.  At select locations, local businesses will present food samples and holiday demonstrations.

Inns featured on this year?s tour are:  Berlin Grande, Berlin Resort, Carlisle Inn Sugarcreek, Carlisle Walnut Creek, Garver House, Guggisberg Swiss Inn, Inn at Amish Door, Memory Lane Cabin, Ramada Inn, Sojourner?s Lodge, Wallhouse Hotel, and Zinck?s Inn.

    Agenda:
    • 11:30 Lunch - Meet for lunch in Strasburg at Campesino's Grill (Mexican) at 11:30 a.m.
      • Address: 1170 North Wooster Ave, Strausburg, OH
      • Directions: from the Strausburg exit (87) take US 250 north/west for 1.9 miles.  You will pass through downtown Stausburg (two traffic lights) and continue to the north edge of the village.  There is a small strip mall on the left and the restaurant is a separate building at the north end of the mall parking lot.
    • 12:30-6:00 Inns & Cookies (Not sure how long to allow for each inn, so times below are just estimates that assume 15 minutes to park, get cookies, see the inn and featured vendors, get back in the trucks and head out.  That's pretty fast for this group to get in and out of trucks. :)
    • 12:45 - Ramada Inn - Strausburg
    • 1:05 - Garver House - Strausburg
    • 1:35 - Inn at the Amish Door - Wilmot
    • 2:00 - Sojourners Lodge between Wilmot and Berlin
    • 2:35 - Berlin Grand - Berlin
    • 3:00 - Berlin Resort - Berlin
    • 3:20 - Zinck's Inn -Berlin
    • 3:45 - Guggisberg Swiss Inn - Millersburg
    • 4:15 - Carlisle Inn Walnut Creek
    • 4:35 - Wallhouse Hotel - Walnut Creek
    • 5:00 - Memory Lane Cabin - Sugarcreek (via shuttle service from Light In The Valley Chapel)
    • 5:40 - Carlisle Inn Sugarcreek
    • 6:00??? Supper or head for home ??? From the brochure, it looks as though there will be some opportunity for food other than cookies (at Zinck's Inn and Wallhouse Hotel) so we may not be too interested in supper.

The tentative schedule above pretty much covers the entire time that they are open for the tour.  If we find that 15 minutes isn't going to be enough time and start to run behind we can have a quick pow-wow and decide which inns the group would prefer to hit or skip.

    Attending:
    • OldVMer & Mrs
    • Tpics & Mrs
    • GBT & Toots
    • dmacker +1
    • OldVMer's son, daughter-in-law, 2 grandchildren

    Maybe:
    • RCHeliguy & Sanofhee
    • BBB & MrsBBB

We are a big maybe...

Will let you know.

Our tickets are bought.  Assuming they will be mailed to us.  The receipt doesn't really specify, but there was not electronic ticket attached to the emailed confirmation.  Looks like anyone who wants to attend needs to make their purchase with enough lead time for the tickets to be mailed to them.

From their web site...
Tickets and souvenir guides, containing a map of the inns on tour, will be mailed to you. Expect to receive these approximately two weeks before the event.

We are still a maybe.

Mac!?!?     What an awesome surprise to see you on here and hear you came to the GTG last week! We have both missed you and Deb so much.  :needhug:

Taney and I have only one major thing planned in December that cant be missed and its not on a Saturday so we thought this would be a great GTG that we could attend... then I realized this GTG is on a Sunday.  :( The great grandsons 2nd birthday party is on the 14th and no way can we miss it.

We miss all our northern AV family and will keep looking for a GTG that it will work.for us to attend.

Deb and I speak of you guys often. We also miss you and Taney and our WV Av family.
We were also looking for a GTG to meet up with you all sometime.
Sorry to hear you won't be making the Christmas cookie tour it sounds like a good time.
Deb and I are grandparents finally with a grandson born in January.
I know how those birthdays can be.
Looking forward to catching up.

Congratulations on the grandson!!!  I know you and Deb are over the moon in love with him and everything that comes with being a grandparent.

Good to hear.  Hopefully mine will arrive soon.  That stuff will make the planning much easier.

Here's what I'm thinking.  Looking for comments/suggestions before I create a formal itinerary in the first post.

Meet for lunch in Strasburg at Campesino's Grill (Mexican) at 11:30 a.m.
Visit the Garver House and the Ramada in Strasburg
then head west over to Wilmot to the Inn at the Amish Door
catch Sojourners Lodge on the way from Wilmot to Berlin
hit Berlin Grand, Zinck's Inn and Berlin Resort
then drop south to Gugggisberg Swiss Inn
and then head back east to Walnut Creek for Carlisle Inn and Wallhouse Hotel.
Heading back toward I-77 on 39 we can catch Memory Lane Cabin and the 2nd Carlisle Inn (Sugarcreek)

Optional supper together in the New Philadelphia area if we aren't full of cookies.

Thoughts?

I have not taken the time to review your planned route, but I think I'm good with anything you decide.  (y)
I'll take a closer look at which cookies are at which stops.
Lunch sounds good to me.  You know I'm good with Mexican.  :abuelito:
I expect I will not stick around for dinner after the tour.
I will probably be ready to head home to catch up on the NFL games.

This all looks good.  Cant wait.  Will decide on New Philly dinner when time comes up.  Thanks for putting this together. :B:

Looks like The Ramada Inn on the tour is a meeting spot from a GTG 10 years ago.
That's cool.
dmacker was at that GTG too.
