I have a 2002 Av. I'm buying one the the box units that holds four JL Audio 6w0's. I've decided to go with either the Rockford Fosgate RFX9320G for a HU, or the Alpine CDA-9807. I'm not going to replace the doors yet (of course, they will be replaced by summer, no doubt). I'm going to let the HU power the door speakers, even after the upgrade. The problem is, what amp should I power the four 6"subs with? I'm told they are 75 RMS. I'm trying to keep cost down right now. I can always add another amp later for the door speakers if I want to. Do I go with a 300 watt amp, 400 watt, or even a 500 watt? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Is it the JL box that is wired for 4 ohms?? or are you wiring it yourself. I had an MA Audio stereo amp that would run a 1 ohm mono load - but it was huge and put out 1800 watts - truely a beast.

I agree with whitethunder though, you should get a lot of power with 300 watts - just match the ohm load when you are trying to get the right power.

The names of Rockford amps usually indicate their power at 2 ohms - For wxample a 1000bd puts out 500 watts into a 4 ohm load. If this doesn't make since, talk to the guy selling you the subs - he should be able to explain it.

If you are going to buy some off-brand amp - make sure the power is rated at RMS - Not peak.

Make sure you provide enough power and a ground wire as big or bigger than your power wire.

I know Soundstream had a real small amp that would do a 1/2 ohm mono load and put out a ton of power for the size.

I'm considering the Rockford Fosgate 501bd. I found it for $289 with free shipping and handling. The RMS power range is 300-500 watts. It shows 300 watts RMS x 1 @ 4ohm and 500 watts RMS x 1 @ 2 ohm. So, this should work, right?

Also, anyone have any comments on the Panasonic CQ-DF783U versus the Alpine CDA-9807?

Thanks.

So go with the Alpine, right? What do you think about the Rockford Amp. I'm going to just use the stock speakers for now, then upgrade by summer, but probably won't run them through an amp, just off the head unit.

Okay, so here's the system:

Alpine 9807 HU
Rockford Fosgate 501bd Amp
Custom Box holding Four JL Audio 6w0's
Stock Door Speakers....for now, but not long....

Needed:
HU installation Kit
Amp Installation Kit (4 gauge power wire)
Antenna connect???

Got the 9807 brudda and am totally happy with it. Looks great against a grey burlwood dash kit.

I just received my 4 speakers from Enkei and am waiting to install. I decided to go with the recommend JL amp to power everything, doors and sub.

Also for those wondering what's good and such. I installed AVI ....actually might make another thread on em...... but these are great speakers at a great price! I mean the SQ is just unbelievable and $300 cheaper then known brands. Its a local growing company producing them but I would highly recommend them.

Far as RF had a couple bad experiences with their products and will never buy them again.
