Annoying squeak from dash???

Has anyone else had an annoying squeaking come from their dash, on the drivers side?? It sounds like it's coming from somewhere behind the instrument cluster, or maybe a little further to the left.

It sounds like a mouse is stuck in there somewhere, and only chooses to squeak when the vehicle is moving 15 MPH or above.

Push up and down on the bumper on the drivers side. Does it do it? If not...it will soon... A bushing for the shock needs to be replaced. Ask your dealer to check the Tech Bullitens. The part number is in there for the replacement.

At least that's how it got fixed for me!

I have the same squeak. Just haven't had time to take it in to the dealer. Is there more specific information about the tech bulliten, like a reference number or something?

I HAD THE SAME SQUEEK A FEW MONTHS BACK, I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY FIXED IT. IT WAS A BROKEN CLIP NEAR THE WINDSHIELD.

Wow! Quick responses.

I will be taking it to the dealership on Thursday and I will give them this topic. They hate it when I do that, but life goes on...

And Chuckles, yes it does squeak when pushing down on the drivers side front bumper.

Thanks for the ideas!

I have had a squeaking noise developing over the past couple months. It is coming from the left side of the dash near the driver's door. It gets much worse when I am braking, but it can still be heard on the open road when I hit any type of slight bump. Seems to be caused by the frame/body flexing.

Is the same squeak everyone is talking about in this thread? I will be taking the Av in for service some time in the next couple weeks and I will have them look at it. I would like to pinpoint the problem so that the dealer does not tear my whole truck apart.

Other than the squeak and one fog light with moisture in it, the Av has been trouble free for the first 20K miles.

midlifecrisis... PLEASE let me know what you find with this. I have the same squeak. I've spent hours under the dash and under the truck. I can't find it.

I have no clue either - it seems to be coming from deep inside the dash. It's really bad when I'm pulling my camper and I hit the brakes. I'm hoping somebody on this site has figured it out, so I can tell the dealer what the problem before they try to fix it. With dealers, it's usually hunt and peck until they replace half the dash and still haven't solved the problem. Either that or they will tell me "cannot reproduce problem". :8:

I had a slight squeek in my gas pedal but a little WD40 on the shaft of the pedal itself (that lets it rock back and forth) as well as a squirt on the shaft for the pedal arm cured it.

I have that squeak on my new 04 Grand Prix. I was hoping WD 40 would work, but the car has an electronically-controlled throttle, not a physical link. Still it could be shaft of the pedal nonetheless.

I've got the same problem. I gave the bumper a good shake and I could hear it. I'm going to the dealer thursday night for an oil change and I'll have them check out the squeak as well. It's annoying, especially since I'm the only one who ever seems to hear it.

Took it to the dealer last night and it was a loose tie rod or something like that. I haven't heard the noise yet, but I usually can really hear it when I drive through a parking structure and the sound reflects off the concrete wall.

I too have the dash squeek, its a high pitched plastic on plastic squeek. I havent figured out how to get my head under the dash while the truck is moving, but I will find it..

Very carefully..... >:D

Or the little misses could bend over and ......................... >:D

Well, if it's any consolation, I finally fixed the squeak. I took the truck to lake McConoughy in Nebraska and bounced around the sand dunes and beaches for a week. All that bouncing either fixed it, or broke whatever it was.

Either way, it's gone.

These squeeks can really be elusive. I had one that I could swear came from under the dash.... but after putting up with it for 20 k miles I took my '02 to the dealer for the back window replacement (cracked frame). While there I mentioned the squeek and said that I doubted if they could find it but to give it a try. Later that day I picked it up and the squeeek was / is gone. It was a cable that passes over the fuel tank. They dropped the tank, fixed the problem and made me a happy camper. ;D They said that it took 5 trips there by some other owner for them to find it the first time and that cable is the first place they look now. As I said I would have sworn that it was coming from in front of me, not behind me..!

I have had the same for 6 months. :E: I have checked treads for cricket noise, chirps, and squeaks. I guessed it was in the dash or inside the driver?s door. I was told to check the speaker and even thought it might be the window pillar dividing the front of the driver?s door and windshield.
Last week I found my squeak. It was the factory installed running board clamp, (at the front of the driver?s side running board). It was loose and making the squeak. If you have not found your squeak yet, check your running board mounts.

I hope this helps! :-*

My dealer spent 3 days and many road tests trying to find a chirp in the dashboard - it was an A/C modulator rubbing against an internal dash bracket.

I hate to say it (again) but this is typical Chevrolet. Sucks, but beats the alternative I think.

Well, my new 2003 had a rattle coming from the dash. Off and on it was at the dealer for about 7 days.

They seemed to think it was the weight of 6 cd changer. They insulated the carrier it and it seems to have disappered.

Whatever they did I am glad it is done.

Nothing worse then having a vehicle with less then 100 miles and hearing a rattle.

could be the wiring harnesses that are by the radio and a/c head.

I now have 28000 miles on my 2003 AV. I have had that annoying little squeak for some time. After taking it in a half dozen times they never could find it and I just lived with it. About 2 weeks ago the squeak got louder all of sudden. I took it and and vola! they found it. Bushing in front shock. I would swear it was coming from the dash. They replaced the shock and no more squeak.

heard it over the slightest road imperfections. Dealer just called and they ordered me a new radio (Bose 6CD chnager). Said one of the mechanics had it in his Suburban as well, now he's getting a new radio. The buzz was internal to the radio.

Hope this helps anyone out there.

Makes sense as I think the radios have a little fan in them
