Another windshield wiper problem

My problem is that my windshield wipers won't shut off. I had to pull the fuse to get them to stop, then the next day I put the fuse back in and the wipers did not come back on until I tried using them again and now they won't stop. What could be the problem?

It's covered here.

The cover (control module as well) on the motor is shorted.  Needs to be replaced, and sealed better.  Instructions are also posted.  Somewhere I started a thread on this very thing, and Sperry (may he rest in peace) posted some great diagrams.

OK - so I have finally had enough w/o fixing the wipers and am ready to purchase the part(s).  I am a bit confused - happens easily.

Do I need to purchase GM Part 88958136 only (cover) and not the circuit board or both?  If both, what is that part number?

Thanks in advance.

Part # 88958136 (2003 AV) 88958372 (2004 AV) is a Cover Kit. Whay year AV do you have? That should be all you need... and some extra goop to seal it better  (y)

Last week my wipers all of a sudden went from intermittent to low speed by themselves and no matter what I did, they wouldn't shut off.  Finally had to pull the fuse.

After reading some posts on this site and some other GM truck sites, the problem was described as moisture getting into the wiper control module shorting out, but in one case someone said excessive grease was shorting the board out.

I removed the wiper module circuit today, saw no signs of moisture but the circuit board was covered completely covered with grease from the wiper motor.  I thoroughly soaked both sides of the board with electronics cleaner, blow dried then repeated 2 more times.  I cleaned the excess grease from the top of the wiper motor where the module interfaces.  Applied a nice bead of silicone sealer to the module lip and reinstalled everything.  So far wipers work normally again.

Many thanks Redstick and Sperry for their detailed instructions (links) on how to get at and replace the wiper motor and module assembly.  I would have been truly lost without them.

Hello Forum!!!!!  It's been awhile for me since I last visited you all.  I have a friend with a windshield wiper problem that asked me for help.  I told him I could not remember the specifics for the fix, but I knew where I could find the answer.  This forum has always been a great source of vast info for me.  Keep up the GREAT work!!! I will back to the forum from time to time to brush up on my skills.  You know the old saying, "If you don't use it you lose it".  Kinda of what happened to me.  At least I know where to go for a refresher.  (y)

I just want to thank all of you that contribute.  I had the exact same problem.  I looked it up here, found the solution and fixed it.  Probably saved me a couple of hundred dollars.

Thank you all so much!

Do you have a power probe or can you make a fused jumper wire?

If so try this

1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the windshield wiper motor.
2. Install a 25-amp fused jumper wire between B+ and the control terminal 1. Install a jumper wire between the terminal 5 and ground.
The wiper motor should be in low speed mode. If the wiper motor is not in the low speed mode replace the motor.

3. Install a 25-amp fused jumper wire between the control terminal 4 and 12 volts. Install a jumper wire between the terminal 5 and ground.
The wiper motor should be in the high speed mode. If the wiper motor is not in the high speed mode replace the motor.

Well it turns out the transmission was froze up ! tried to use penetrating oil on it and no luck so i replaced the transmission. by the way when u buy the replacement trans it comes with a motor from GM. Found that out after i bought a new motor from NAPA. Thankfully NAPA took the motor back. But thanks for the help.  :D

My issue is that my wipers, speedometer, door locks won’t work.
