Has any one liftted there truck
I have been thinking about lifting my truck.

the best one to get?
do you like yours?
hows the ride?
all of the RAMS and F150 are higher dam them.... :D:

LOL... there are a ton of members that have lifted their trucks here. Most have either RCD or Rancho. However there are others with Pro Comp/Fabtech/Whiplash/ etc....

Do a search for lifts and you will find enough data to keep you reading for several days.

I know that the Expiditions sit higher than my Z71 Tahoe. Kinda frustrating buying the GM 'Off road' package and in reality it seems like I bought a lowered truck compared to even the Ford and Dodge 2 wheel drives! Gotta twist the torsion bars soon that should give the truck a slightly improved look!

You may consider a "body" lift instead of a suspension lift and should research h first before deciding. The body lift looks decent on the Av, but if you want to get really high [over 2 inches] go with suspension. I lifted my last truck 3 inches but had lots of problems parking because I could not get into the parking garages, airport parking, Sonic drive-ins, when I needed. Run a search on this site by using the search button above and entering the search word on the menu. Good luck and happy lifting- be sure to post pics of your lift. (y)

Im not sure if this is true but this is what I was told by my Salesperson. He said that the body lift is a ton cheaper if you only want to get a couple of inches compared to the suspension lift.

do any of you have lifts do you like them ???
how is it driving on the road??? :9:
thank for the help...

I just did a 3'' body lift. So-far I love it! She don't drive much Different. Nothing a new set of shocks wouldn't fix ;)

Them dodge owners are forced to look me in the eye now and I don't think they like it. ;D The bumpers are almost higher than an S-10's bumpers now, not as low as a Fiat's :C: Then some bigger tires and all will be well.

I put a 6" RCD lift on mine with 33" BFG Mud Terrains. I did have the Goodyear MTR's but the BFG's are much much smoother. The ride is just like stock and is very very stable that high off the ground. I drive it everyday on the interstate and it handles very well. Just watch out...if you lift it while you have the 3:73 gears your gas mileage will go down and it will put a huge strain on your transmission. I suggest going with the 4:30 gears. Here are a few pics of mine:

Be prepared to fork over some dough for this. Total cost was about $3500....this included lift kit, tires, rims and labor($500) If your gonna get a lift you might aswell get a new exhaust system. I went with the flowmaster 40 series...if your gonna do that....you need to get more air to your engine....I went with the K&N FIPK II. After the lift kit your gonna have to purchase a HPIII programmer to change the settings in your computer. Also wanna consider new gears....4:30 will cost me $1200....that is front and back and included labor. As far as the torsion bars go....I wont touch those....some people have done that but I prefer to leave them where they are.

Thanks for the info
its a lot of money do you think its worth it?
I think i will start small with the cold air intake
And hold up till i get my taxes back..
any other ideas to start with first ??? :0: :E:

Whether you think it's worth it or not is up to you. Some people lift there rigs and wish they didn't and some are glad that they did. Be warned that when you lift your AV you open "Pandoras Box" and you will sometimes be forced to spend money on your AV to compensate for the lift kit. Me....I'm glad I lifted my AV....the ride is smooth and it's a beast offroad! The gas bill each month is enough to make me cry everytime but that will be fixed when I get my new gears. If your going to start off small then I would search around the board and look at all the valueable information that is on here. Every MOD that I have on my AV is something that I found on this board. Good luck on your quest! >:D (y)

i agree with conway, i also lifted my av and love it. he is right about the money, i have just over 6 grand in mine in the last 2 months. i have the fabtech 6" lift with 35s. if you run 35s you have to do some trimming, i would stay with 33s. btw it rides as good or maybe better than stock. atleast now people get out of the way.

I forgot to mention that when you lift your AV......your torsion bars will still be low to the ground....you can see mine in my sig picture. There is a company that makes a product....cant think of the company...but they relocate the torsion bars up under the AV where they belong. Becareful when you take yours offroading because you will get high centered on them....I knowl....it happened to me. (y)

Conway,

Is there that much of a difference with the Av going from (with z-71) 32" tires to 33's?

I had 33's on my 99 dodge and it made almost no change in fuel consuption. And it did not seem to strain the truck at all.

I think the stock Z71 tires are 31"....I may be wrong. You can't really compare a Dodge to an AV because Dodge's run a different gear ratio and have straight axles up front. They are also running a different engine, transmission then us and have to take into consideration that the AV is a very heavy vehicle. Majority of the AV owners out there are running the 3:73 gears...not suitable for a lift kit and bigger tires....thus causing the strain on the transmission. I'm guessing because the tires I'm running...33" BFG Mud Terrains have a really aggresive tread pattern....maybe if I was running 33" All Terrains it may be a different stroy as far as fuel consumption and strain on the transmission? You really just have to take the good and the bad when it comes to lifting the AV.
