Any suggestions on a system for the 5.3? Which systems are best? Any experience would be appreciated.

ps
This is my frst post here, great forum...lots of good advice, thanks.

I think Butch has nitrous...but he also has blower water injection....etc etc ...

try a search and see what comes up.....most have added Super chargers.....HTH

Good Luck

I've done a little reading on this and the NOS 5177 kit is supposed to be the dry kit for our Av. It's for a 75-125 hp shot and only works at WOT. It's supposed to be pretty easy to install also. Should cost around $550 ($556.99 at Jeg's), though I haven't done any shopping yet.

This kit is supposed to be safe for the engine, not enough additional power to cause problems with the stock internals. As for the transmission, that's a different story! The 4L60E is marginal at best for our truck. I would expect to have to have the tranny rebuilt in pretty short order if you hit the bottle a lot.

I'd love to have a supercharger but, for what I'm looking for, the nitrous is a whole lot cheaper.

Hope this helps.

Hey KV...... Im running the Nitrous Express EFI wet kit on mine.... I am running mine with a Blower..., but it would be the same kit for a normally aspirated engine.... I like the quality of there systems...., and I just like the idea of running a wet kit vs. dry....., you dont have to depend on the MAF to add the right amount of fuel when spraying....... There are some safety items that you would want to be sure to use with the kit..... Those being the Wide open throttle switch...., a fuel pressure switch...., and an MSD R.P.M activated Window switch.., to assure you dont have any problems.........

If you purchase the Gen-X Two kit with the Nitrous kit you will get all of these items..., accept the M.S.D Window switch...., this you will have to purchase separately from M.S.D..... you will also get a bottle warmer with the Gen-X kit which is really needed to keep the proper bottle pressure for spraying..., especially in cooler weather.......

The window switch will prevent sprying Nnitrous below 3000 r.p.m which is important to prevent a back fire.., you can also shut the Nitrous off at the r.p.m of your choosing..., which would be before you hit the Rev Limiter..., also to prevent a back fire condition..... You can also turn off the Nitrous before the shift point with the Window switch to help keep the Tranny alive......

I used the Nx control panel switch for the F-body camaro's and mounted it inside the tape compartment in the center console to hide all the control switches..., and also installed a Autometer electric Nitrous pressure gauge and hid it in the center console..., just so as not to have switches and gauges showing, and to not have to hack up any of the trucks nice interior.......

Ive had the kit on for over a year now with no problems at all..., its important to do a good installation though..., and make sure all your wiring is done properly.., with good connections and well secured..., same with the plumbing.......

I will try to post some pics of the install for you.., feel free to ask me any questions you would like........, if your not going to spray over a 100 shot you should be fine with the stock fuel pump.., but I would still get the truck on a Dyno just to check the Air/Fuel ratio..., and be sure there's no Knock present when your spraying....

Butch.

Thanks for the info Butch. Looks like I have to do some more thinking. Where did you mount the bottle?

BTW, I noticed you live in New Haven. I spent 4 years in college down there, great area.

I removed the spare tire and jack set-up.., and mounted the bottle up where the spare tire was... I have the Nx remote bottle opener so that I can open the bottle from inside the truck from the control panel... I then fabbed up a nice aluminum shield to cover and protect the bottle from road debris..., cant hardly tell there's a 15 lb. bottle hiding up there.......

New Haven is nice.., I live just outside the city in Orange.., hate winter though., its a Female Dog to keep the truck clean and detailed..., especially the underside.., but I stay after it.., only nut in the neighborhood under his truck in the middle of winter washing and detailing the underside.., lol

There is an old saying "all throttle no bottle". NOS is like drugs. It can hook you and sometimes things go wrong. Cost me two engines in the 80's. I'm sure systems have come a long way since then. Enjoy the G's.

Butch,

Sound like a really cool setup. You say it?s easy to install, but can someone without much knowledge do it? The weekend mechanic if you may.

Also, Where are the pix? I would love to see some detailed pictures of your bottle location, pluming etc?

Thanks!
