Federal Couragia M/T Mud-Terrain Tire, nice aggressive tread and a price that is fairly easy on the wallet.

Ran the Couragia M/T on my winter wheels for two years. Great traction in muddy/snowy conditions and surprisingly quiet on the street for the aggressive tread blocking. The drawback was the wear, since these are relatively soft and are laterally blocked, I only got 17,000 miles out of them. They weren't on the wear bars, but there's no way they were going to make it through another winter season (6500-8000mi. from early December to April). I'm guessing I could have gotten another 2-3k out of them. Overall, a great performer, but be prepared for quick replacement. I switched to the Falken Wildpeak A/T for last winter. These don't have quite the performance, but are still pretty strong on snow/dirt. the tread is a little more street oriented with a more directional as opposed to lateral  tread blocking, and they seem to be wearing a lot better. I have 11k miles on them and without measuring,  I'd say they have another 22k in them. I should get 4, maybe 5 years out of them. They are a great compromise between streetability and poor weather performance. I'm not sure what your plans are for your Av, but if you are using it as a daily driver, I'd lean toward the Wildpeak, or another AT tire similar to it as opposed to the MT tires. For the same price point or marginally less or more depending on the tire you can get significant poor weather performance and 1.5 -2 time the treadlife. If you are just weekending it and are going to be doing a ton on offroad/snow driving, maybe the MT is your ticket, just be prepared for the advanced wear if you street it a lot.

have u checked out the PATRIOT TIRES by federal too but distributed by Dieseltires?

With very few out there, I personally would wait at least two years before considering them to see what people's reaction to their performance and wear are versus the price. At $320 for the 285/70R17, that's nearly 60% more than other tires in that size in the A/T and M/T categories that can be had in the $200 range.

I just switched to the Falken Wildpeak AT3W 275/55R20 on my Avy after looking around a couple months.Lot of people running them in this area but the seller was 1) I've seen no treadwear issues on more than a dozen friends trucks that are using them 2) Family member has gotten between 44 & 50K out of the first two sets he ran. He travels a lot, highway miles and hits a lot of offroad pipeline locations.
So far I've only had time to notice they are not noisy, ride pretty decent even compared to road radials & seem to have great traction in both wet & muddy conditions. The price is pretty darn good for what you get. (y)
