It's no secret that other people tend to under estimate the AVs ability. More than once I have had someone pull out in front of me only to be sprised at how fast I covered the ground between us. How many times have you lost site of the tiny "car" that is riding your tail?

I figured out that jamming on the breaks and stopping in a straight line works great to avoid the obsticle in front but the guy behind me never seems to realize an AV could stop that fast.

The only thing that seems to "wake up" the driver behind me is to do a little rear bumper shake as I slow. I never do it when the road is slippery (snow, rain, mud). That little rump shake sure gets them to consider stopping faster!

Anyone else try this or have a better technique?

Yep. Not anywhere near enough to break the rear end free... just enough to catch the attention of the zoned out driver behind me.

I wish there were break light sets that increased the number of lights lit for the harder you pressed on the breaks. Maybe the whole tailgate would light up under panic stops or when the ABS kicked in. Just to wake up the driver behind...

hmmmm LOF!

Shaking your rump would be normal out here, people would just think your a native and not know how to drive :)

Or that you should have DC tags.

I've gave em a rear waagle, added waag rear bumper guard in the spring and I do a sorta shimmy toward centerline and back.

Just the sight of their car bouncing off my rear tires ......hmmm how much damage would that do to a honda

I like to take my foot off the gas and see how slow I have to go to make them go around me. Ususally 55 MPH. Then they go off and tailgate someone else.

Taking the foot off the gas does 2 things. I get more space between me and the car in front of me, so that if he slams on his brake I have more time to react and not panic stop causing the car behind me to hit me. And the jerk behind me will finally go around me and hit someone else in the event of some problem ahead.
