Does anyone know what this is and what it does?
It is in the headliner right over the drivers seat and a bit to the left in my 02 avalanche.
I noticed that when I first start my truck in the morning and the engine is cold, I get a buzzing sound from there.
It is not so loud as to irritate the driver and some may probably not hear it but I do.
Either my brain eventually tunes it out or it just goes away after a while. I don't know when it actually stops buzzing but I just realize as I am driving along that the noise is gone.
Any ideas
I'd love to know.
Thanks

That question has been asked way back in 02.

Hmm
I always thought the mic for OnStar was the little black piece that clipped on the side of the overhead console with the dome lights.

What is that then?
Or did OnStar utilize 2 mics?

I am now having ideas to re-purpose that Onstar mic for my Car PC voice commands as it is in the ideal location.
after all GM would know the acoustics as they built the truck.

Amibiet temperature sensor for the a/c.

Probablt the wrong spelling cause I'm  posting from my phone

Thanks
I just found it in another post for 02' as TLB said.
I would have done a search earlier but did not know what to look for in my search.
I am reading up now on why it is buzzing and if that is normal.

Document 1639237 sez to remove sensor, then re-seat to see if the fan binding goes away.  If not, replace.

There is a fan in it that sometimes goes bad.

Most folks think it's a speaker because of the grille, but there is a little fan that sucks in air across a sensor and it tells the HVAC how warm it is inside the cabin and it adjust the temp on the heater. If you do like me and drive with the window open a bit the heater will cook your feet cause it thinks it's cooler in the cab than it really is.

I did a search and received this thread as I now have the buzzing on my 02.

Does anyone have the GM name for the fan or better yet the part number? I need to get my headliner replaced anyway.

Nothing like reviving an old thread.
