Anyone Have To Replace Their Wheel Bearings Yet?

They are sealed, non-serviceable.

About to do the driver side on the 02 Z71, and I might as well do the passenger side while I am at it...

Yes they are sealed and not serviceable, when the seal goes bad then you have problems.

It's pretty simple to replace them. and yes you may as well do both sides at one time.

I just had to have the driver side changed out today. $600 at the dealer. ouch! It hadnt failed yet but it was making the noise.

Looks like about 2 hours to do both sides..  Have to find the parts now..  Have a slight wiggle on the drivers side..  :E: :E:

The hubs had to be replaced on the '03 Tahoe I drive just this last spring...they were both shot.  They went while I was down for Hugz Birthday!  I first heard the noise while turning onto his road...

I just read thought the thread, Hugz yours may be the first Z66 or 2 wheel drive for that matter that anyone has posted about........unless I missed one I saw all 4 wheel drives in this thread. How many miles are on yours? I am at 75 K with no noise. KNOCK KNOCK!

Bearings came in took about 90 minutes for both..  Longest part was setting up to tool,s for the job..
Pretty easy install for sure..  No just have to wait for the sway bar to come in

my truck is an 02 and has well over 100k miles on it.  I started hearing a noise only whenI turned right, which sounded like a moan or a dog crying.  So I changed the front driver's hub because I thought was the root of the problem, turns out the noise is still there.  bummer.  Now my abs light stays on and i don't know why, anybody know what to to fix it? My point is is that my hubs probably could have lasted alot longer mind you i dont drive the poop out of it.

My 02 has just over 105k miles on it. Took it to the dealer this morning and turns out my driver's side wheel bearing is shot. I've been hearing the noise all winter long, just could never pin point where it was coming from. When all is said and done it'll be just under $600 to replace. I'm wondering how long it'll be before my right side goes too.

$600 for one side..  MAN...  I know the z71s have a little more involved but that is OUTRAGOUS..
My Z66 was only $240 for the parts on both sides..  Granted the shop did quote me $475 per side..

I am currently having this problem right now. It is the front passenger side. I am having a problem separating the piece with the 3 bolts from the piece behind it. Any suggestions? I would show a picture but I can't figure out how to insert an attachment. The picture can be seen here: http://www.clubavalanche.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=12397&st=0&#entry143169

I got it out. I rented a slide hammer pulley from Advanced Auto. They gave my $130 back when I returned it. My Avalanche is back in business.

I paid $180 at advance in 07 i think is when mine went out

Mine sounded like a shooshing sound while you start rolling. Then it becomes a rolling grinding sound. Had both front side replaced today. I had 135K miles.

I replaced my driver side rear, when I took the brakes apart to adjust the park brake. I noticed that there was gear lube in the assembly. I bought my bearing for around $60.00 at Autozone. I had it done in just under 2hrs.  My AV is an '02 Z71 with just over 70k on the odometer.

Just ordered a front hub for my 07 LT rwd 72k miles, 119$ shipped on amazon vs 340$ at autozone.

Dealer install and part would be 800$...

Truck started "clunking" over bumps, and would stop with the slightest brake pressure while going over bumps.

It went today pulling into work, locking up, sounds like all hell is coming lose.  Went over a big bump at train tracks and it must have killed the bearings finally.

weather sucks...  -10 tonight...

I just replaced my original driver side hub.  I have an '02 with 171,000 miles on it.  I am going to go ahead and to the passenger side now.  My AV has been a work horse and I've had no problems at all!  Great truck!  :D

Greetings!
I have a 2002 Avalanche Z66 2wd with 170K miles. No bearings have been replaced.  (y)
But I`m starting to get some of the symptoms that yall are describing!  :E: :E:
1) Every now and again my ABS/BRAKE light comes on. I turn of the truck and turn it back on the lights are gone. (intermittent problem)
2) While my truck is off the ground and I spin the front wheels (both), they spin with ease and very smooth but I hear a ,"tink, tink, tink, tink, tink, tink" noise. Sounds like little metal pins falling. Is that a sign of the bearings going bad?
3) Cruising about 10-20 MPH I can hear what (to me) sounds like metal to metal grinding "crick, crick, crick, crick". Its very faint. I CANT TELL IF ITS COMING FROM THE FRONT OR THE REAR  :help:. More noticeable when LIGHTLY applying the brakes. But she rides smooth and I don't hear anything abnormal when driving at regular speeds. I drive dayley about 60 miles on the interstate. 75-80MPH

I was prepared to replace both the rear bearings and seals - but now i`m second guessing myself because everyone is having issues with the front bearings!

Any recommendations?

Whats the best way to figure out which bearings are going bad?
