Anyone lowered?

Trying to find out if anyone has lowered their WBH. I'm wondering . . .will the 3/5 drop from DJM work?

Update -

The Belltech 2/3 is out, part number is 143 for the better Nitro Active drop (the cheaper Nitro Drop is 142). They also have a 2/4 drop (Nitro Drop = 144, Nitro Active = 145).

I'm shopping prices and also for a SoCal install shop right now. Likely to happen in the next 3-4 weeks, probably with some sway bars, and maybe in conjunction with a blower.....

You might PM member JHC, he has a white '03 WBH that he lowered.

I was out of town for a few days and I guess I missed this when you posted it.
I have the DJM 3/5 kit.
I don't know anything about the Belltech kit.
Have had the DJM for about 16 months.

Sparky my question is if anything has changed from cladded to WBH . . . i just want to know if same kit for Cladded works on WBH

DJM no ... Eibach yes.

Used DJM on my '02 Avalanche. The truck was lowered all right and it rode all right. But, the way they coil the spring makes it sag when the fuel tank is full. So, the truck always lists to port. Plus, forget carrying anything with any weight to it.

The finish of the springs was almost as bad as a junk yard part. Spring supposed to be glass bead blasted for strength and then powder coated. They were spray painted over rust.

Last and not least was service. They sent the wrong springs the first time, so I had to pay shipping 4 times.

I've got Eibachs on my '03 Avalanche. They are everything I expected and more.

your neighbor, ron :)

I have a set of Eibach 2.8" Tahoe springs on my WBH. It lowers the Av 3.8", I love them. For the front I used the Maughaus 2" drop spindles. I have a friend with the DJM 3/5 kit on a Tahoe and I think it rides to rough.

I only have one at the moment. It shows 2/4 drop, tailgate, handles, mirriors...

Nice tailgate. Very clean. How is the exhaust - is it loud or does it have resonance?

Is that a Z66/Z71 or a base?

Cool wheels. I like the understated look. Are the tires 285/295/305?

Interesting that you went with the drop spindles. What kind are they and where did you get them? Why those, instead of the re-indexed torsion bar keys?

How is the ride? Is it stiff? I've heard the Eibachs are considerably stiffer than stock. Is the yaw/roll better than before?

What about sway bars....have you considered replacing the stock ones with Hotchkiss/Hellwigs?

Nice truck. Good Karma for you.

That really looks good. How did you run the duals out the back? I lowered mine 3" in the back and there is not enough room to run the pipe to the left side.

I didn't have those kind of problems or quality with DJM ???
The one issue I had was with control arm bushings. They replaced them but it did cost me to have them installed.
I'm not unhappy I did the drop, but I sure would like to be able to drop in on all the others folks that have used different materials for the drop and do a compare (y). That would be great. I could live with a 2/4 instead of a 3/5, but the torsion key thing does not sit right with me.
Also the guys that went with new springs for the back to get a 2 inch drop in back seemed to have their shares of issues.

Oh, and I forgot to mention.. I have not had any problems with full gas tanks or loads.
I've had loads of up to 700 pounds (packages of flooring) without great troubles.

Thanks, There is more to come. I trying to get it ready for the World of Wheels in January. My exhaust is Flowmaster 40 series. It is very loud (sounds like a deeper version of a V8 mustang) but I like it like that. They had to re-bend the drivers side pipe after I lowered it so it wouldn't hit the differential. It isn't Z66 or Z71. The tires are Goodyear Eagle GT II 285/50/R20. They need to be big cause the roads suck down here. I got the spindles from Maughaus (559)226-8196. I went with spindles because it keeps the factory suspension in tact with out changing any angles. The ride is just as good if not better that stock. I think it corners better, but it's not like I'm racing it. Next up is some EXT upper cladding, verticle grille, and painted bumper cladding.

Here is a new pic

Sweet. So it's a base model - is it 2WD or 4WD?

About the spindles....did you do the install yourself or did someone else do it? Did you have to get an alignment after installation? Were you concerned about this?

What about shocks....did you keep the stock ones or did you go with Bilstens/Ranchos/KYBs etc.? What are/were the stock shocks? (I have a Z66 with Bilsteins in the front and the Sachs delf-leveling in the back).

Did you change the bumpstops?

I'm really intrigued by your setup because I don't want to mess with the torsion bars. How did you decide to go this way? No one else is doing this. Even Belltech (supposedly the best in the biz) uses torsion bar keys.

2WD. Yeah, any time you do any front suspension work you should get an alignment. I'm only 25, but this is 3rd custom truck and I've been doing stuff like this for about 8 years. This is the first torsion bar set up that I have fooled with so I got a friend of mine, who is a suspension specialist at Chevy, to help me. He also aligned it for me. The hardest part is getting the stock spindles off (lot of beating). As far as the back, this was actually the 3rd time that I have lowered the back. At first I wanted to drop it 2" to level it. So I ordered some 2" coils from belltech. They sent me tahoe coils and said they would work, but they droped the back 3". I learned my lesson after that. Then, I happened to have some stock Tahoe coils laying around from my last truck, they worked and lowered the Av 1.5"(Av's sit 1.5" higher than Tahoes). Three months later I went 2/4. If you are going to lower yours then you will need new rear shocks. Try to get the regular stock shocks(not the self-leveling ones) they will work. Eibach says to cut your stock bumpstops in half. I read an article in Sport Truck Mag about the new spindles and I liked them. I got the spindles cause I didn't want to mess with torsion keys either, that and I like to be different.

Okay, so I'm thinking about creating my own 2/3 drop kit with the spindles you got, some 3" drop springs from Eibach, and Bilsteins in the back (already have stock Bilsteins in the front). Did you consider Eibach for the springs or just Belltech? I've heard the Eibachs are stiffer and Belltechs are more like stock. I worry about loading the truck up with people and cargo and having it sag with the Belltechs, which is why I'm considering the Eibachs.....

Any more pics of your sweet ride? If they're too large to post clearly please email them to me.... ;D ;D ;D

Sorry, my last post was kind of confusing. First I used Belltech, then I used stock Tahoe springs, now I have Eibach 3.8" springs on the back.

I like the ride of the Eibach springs better than belltech. I've had three people in the back with no problem. Rides like stock. I'll send you pics when I get more.
Thanks

Do you know if you will have a problem towing at all? I want to go about 4" in the back but I still have to be able to tow a 3400lb car and trailer and tools.

Looks great BTW.....

I have looked into some drop springs for a buddys tahoe and also my avalanche. I found some that I needed an installation kit to put the springs in. Any idea what for. You would think 1 spring comes out and 1 spring goes back in, right? I'll try to find them again.

hey noose, where can i find maughaus spindles. i'm glad i read this post cuz i lowered my wifes yukon with belltech and the ride is firmer (too firm). i have decided to go eibach in the rear of my av, and probable will replacce the yukons rear w/ eibach.

Its McGaughtys Suspension Parts 1-559-226-8196. I ordered mine last friday. I hope to have a 2/3 kit installed by next week. I will get some pics as soon as I do but the stock Z66 wheels and tires will still be on it. They also make a rear shock extender so the Z66 load level still works. I wanted to go lower but I was affraid towing might become a concern.

My biggest problem is finding wheels I like and can afford. What I really want is 20 x 8 and 20 x 10 billet wheels with offset that tucks it under the truck. Unless some miricle happens and I sell about 25 new Chevys this month that won't be happening. ;D
