I'm planning on ordering the WBH package pretty soon. Wondering if there are any other knuckleheads out there who have ordered it?

WBH=Without Body Hardware

You know.. a NAKED AVALANCHE

No Cladding... :D:

But that's just my opinion.

Naked? Since when was naked a bad thing? Anyway, I read elsewhere on this site that you could start ordering the "naked" Av as of Monday, for delivery in January. Can't wait to get my "naked" Av in the dark gray metallic.

:B:Somethings are better kept under wraps>.. ;D

Don't pass judgement on chicken without the skin until you have eatin it. In other words lets see some of these nudies lowered ...ala Ford Harley edition!!

I've seen the photos of the claddless. I still wake with cold sweats in the middle of the night as a result.

It really changes the look of the AV. All the proportions are different. In short, it looks like it was designed about 10 years ago. It looks like a just another truck. I would hate to see what the trails and brush would do to an AV without cladding? :6:

I was waiting to order my 03 AV because I heard they were going to make it available without the plastic cladding. But it's not available on the 2500 series. Can't think of a reason why. After comparing the pictures of them, I like the truck with the cladding better anyway.
Without cladding, to me, looks like a Silverado pickup.

Always should keep things wrapped up. >:D

Seems like more waxing to me. and more visible road damage.

Also known as a Pain the in a$$

I don't like the WBH AV particularly well but hey, what's it going to hurt? In my mind, AV sales just might increase because of people so critical of the cladding (like our mailman ;)) would go for the WBH.

I just wish that they had the original meaner AV front end :6:.

BTW, it is great to see vitually all of us united in the fact taht we like the cladding (y). It is truly a great feature to have. Are you listening Mr. Lutz? We  our cladding!

Personally, I think the cladding is what makes an AV an AV. Without it, it's a Silverado with a midgate or a Suburban without the 3rd row.

It's like Dirty Harry without the 44. The premise is there, but the attitude isn't. :B:

Just my two cents.

I agree on the comparisons... (y)

however, I seem to remember Dirty Harry having a 357 Magnum... ;)

Seven ?

Really? ;)

I know what you're thinking: "Did he fire six shots, or only five?" Well, to tell you the truth in all this excitement, I've kinda lost track myself. But, being this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question: "Do I feel lucky?" Well, do ya punk?

Not to be contrary, but I don't plan on buying the Av for "attitude." I have enough of that without a cladded Av. I want an Av because it provides the things I am looking for in a vehicle: Long bed(when needed), seating for 5, towing capacity, room for my bikes, ride and comfort.

To be honest, I can't stand the look of the plastic on the Av, it looks disjointed and slapped together. Reminds me of the Aztek, in terms of looks(a pathetic vehicle if ever there was one). I would not have bought the Av, despite everything it offers. Just when I was about ready to settle for an F-150 Supercrew, Chevy comes through with the WBH.

I realize that most people on this site have the Av with the cladding or are waiting to buy the Av with the cladding. To each his/her own, I say. I believe the spirit of the Av is not based upon its looks, but on its flexiblity and functionality. How many vehicles out there can carry a load of 4X8 sheets of plywood in the afternoon, and then carry a group of 5 in comfort out to dinner?

As for dings and scratches, in my mind, they don't detract as much from the look of the Av as the cladding does(IMO).

Anyway, love the site, love the Av, can't wait to tell you all when I order mine!

Peace.

Well, I knew the cladding wasn't for everyone, and an AV is an AV. The way I see it, if it still stops someone form buying a Ford or Dodge all the better. I love the cladding, it makes it look very intimidating, but to each their own.

Hey KBAVALANCHE-

I am with you. I have an avalanche now and I love it except for the plastic. I can't count the amount of times someone has told me that I have the ugliest truck on the road. I have had two or three compliments, but they are usually from kids about 12-15 yearts old.

I can't wait until I am able to order the WBH. I heard a nasty rumor last week from my local dealer here in the Baltimore area- the WBH option is pushed off until April. Lets hope that is not true!

Jason

Jason-

Good lord, I sure hope not. However, one of the local dealers here in Vegas thinks they should be available for order this week, and says that production has already started on them. I haven't really looked into ordering one yet, as I have a friend who's dad works for a dealer in California. He is going to try and swing me a deal under the invoice plus whatever rebates, etc. I plan on ordering once I know what the deal is going to be.

That's okay. :) People are different!

?I have enough of that without a cladded Av. ?
You sure do! Not as much, I think, but hey! (y)

The Av's REALLY good at that! ?(y)

Yup. Gotta ? :B: And buy a FORD? Heavens, NO!

I totally agree. Everyone's different! ?:0:

Guys, listen! This guy knows his stuff! The Av is really good with cladding, in my opinion, but it really isn't that that the Av is all about! Its about the flexibiltiy and usefulness! ? :B:

Good to hear that!!! ?(y)

Sorry for the long post/quotes.

I have, and am partial to the cladding. I do believe it does give the AV it's look. I was at the dealership today and they had several 03's on the lot. Went over them top to bottom and can say the only thing I desire is the steering wheel controls.
I do not believe it looks disjointed or slapped together at all. If you want slapped together look at the 03 Silverado front end. There are more than 6 different colors and materials from the bumper to the lip of the engine bonnet.

From the many pictures I've seen and what is on the lot at this point I think you can get a pretty good idea of what the WBH will look like by looking at the 4 door Silverado and adding sails to the side.

I also have a 2002 Aztec. The one with colored cladding.
"(a pathetic vehicle if ever there was one). "
I do not consider it pathetic. I vehicle that won the JD Powers customer satisfaction award could hardly be considered pathetic

I am almost certain you will see an increase in sales with the new claddless Av option..personally it's a must for me...but not everyone is inclined to feel the same way..this is what GM was counting on...make something that already has proved to be a success...and market it toward a group that were turned off my certain cosmetics.....Good move for chevy in my opinion...the more Av's on the road the merrier..... :B:

I agree, NJAV. In fact, I have a fear that the cladded Av could become an orphan. :cautious:

IMHO, the WBH will steal as much or more in the way of sales from the 4door Silverado market, as well as the Dodge and Chry. 4 door sales ;D >:D
THey do not have a 4 door 1/2 ton that can compare on functions

And maybe keep some GM Owners that are buying Supercrews. :B:

I stopped by another dealer in the northern VA area today and they tell me that the WBH can be ordered in the first ordering cycle in Jan 03. Then you gotta wait 6 weeks for it to come in!
