GM SAYS "BRING IT BACK TOMORROW"

GM hopes its latest come-on to consumers is more than a one-night stand as it offers shoppers overnight test drives at most of its dealerships on most of its models. The program will run from April 15 through July and be promoted via direct mail and TV commercials.

GM last week set a new wave of incentives that puts zero-percent financing or $3000 rebates on most of its vehicles in the hopes of jumpstarting spring selling. About 80 percent of dealers are expected to sign up for the program, and they will be responsible for qualifying "potential buyers," with the burden of turning away the inevitable yahoos who will try to use the program to scam a vehicle.

GM is assisting dealers with extra liability insurance coverage. Individual dealers, including GM's, often do overnight test drives. This is the first time GM has sought to make a national program out of it.

Dealers like to reserve the tactic for their own because its easier to size up the would-be buyers for whom an overnighter could be a sale closer, versus having to qualify an army of consumers attracted to an advertised deal. -Jim Burt

How about we have over night 4x4ing GTG in each state our borrowed AV's :)

Now that would be fun >:D

Yea, I heard about this on the radio this morning. I am thinking about doing a overnighter with the Cadillac EXT just to see if it is really worth that many more $$. Then I get to thinking, if it is a lot nicer I would just start wanting one and I am very happy with my Z66........

Some of the restrictions I heard about were... no more than 100 miles put on the vehicle during the overnight, it must stay in the same state as the dealer and you must leave your current ride with the dealer... sounds fair to me.. cept the 100 mile part ;D

Seems like the way test drives should have always been. I know they do this type of thing with the more expensive vehicles out there.

I agree, the hundred mile thing is not quite 'fair'. I don't need it over night to put 100 miles on. Is that just so you can see how good it looks in your driveway? ;)
