I'm trying to get a sense of how many Avalanche owners consider themselves brand-loyal to Chevrolet.

How many of you are Die hard, Chevy can do no wrong, everything else sucks Chevy guys?

Personally, I'm not brand-loyal to any car maker. I may have some preconceived opinions of a vehicle, based on who makes it, but I do my best to evaluate each and every one on its own merits. If Ford, or even Yugo, made the Avalanche, and it was the exact same truck we're driving today, I'd still be all over it.

My Dad, on the other hand, is a die-hard Chevy man. In his eyes, no other car maker has ever made anything he'd even consider buying. Chevy could start making the old Yugos, and he'd swear that they were better than Volvos.

Where do you stand?

I have strong leanings towards Chevy, but I also like a few other GM cars. Of course, being eligable for employee discount pricing (father-in-law and brother-in-law) may have something to do with it.

I've had a '79 Mustang turbo which was fun, but nothing special mechanically speaking. My '84 Chrysler Lazer turbo was a POS. After that, I married into the discount, and it's been all Chevy since. Some mixed success early on ('85 Celebrity with 3 transmissions in the first few months) and a so-so Beretta. After that, I've been blessed with truly sweet and reliable Chevys: S-10 pick'em up (my favorite, after the Av), Lumina sedan (still have it: 7 years, 28,000 miles, mint condition), Blazer, and now the Av. :B:

Next for the wife will probably be a TrailBlazer or maybe an Envoy, but she can't bear to part with that Lumina yet.

Raised in a family that was pretty much brand loyal to GM. My parents always had Suburbans and up until the SUV craze, no one else made one (except International in the mid 60's...) so GM was really the only player. Same thing with the Av now.

I've always called myself a "chevy guy" and have friendly rivalries with friends who have Fords, but I think that in truth, if Ford made the truck I wanted at the right price, I'd buy it. Lucky for me, they don't! ;)

I've always been an American Full Size sort of guy, but that's mostly because I'm 6'8" and simply don't fill well in a Toyota. :)

I've always leaned towards GM and other than my Expedition, have only owned one Ford and that was an 89 Tempo that the dealer bought back due to the numerous service visits I had in 8 months. If not for the Av, I'd have gone from the Expedition right into a Toyota Sequoia. I don't need anything as large as a Suburban and it seems everyone has a Tahoe/Yukon these days. My Expedition was the best car or truck I had ever had until now. Tried the Jeep thing with a Grand Cherokee Ltd and took a loss getting rid of that for the Expedition.

I guess I would say no to being brand-loyal. I also look at what the manufacturer offers and the overall packaging when making a decision. I would have to say that GM currently has the best lineup of cars and trucks. They seem to have market dominance right now, like Daimler-Chrysler had a few years ago.

In short, the Av is exactly what this family of four needs. Cool styling and incredible flexibility.

I grew up in a GM family and have pretty well continued the bias. My vehicles over the years have included 2 Chevys, 2 Oldsmobiles, and 1 Saturn. (I did buy one Ford - 1982 EXP - fun little front driver at a point when Chevy's offerings were pretty boring . . sadly wrecked at the hands of an uninsured kid)

It's funny that brand loyality can be pretty strong. If I'd based my Av purchase on the reliability of my S-10 Blazer, I'd have never bought the Av. Only 80,000 miles since 1987, but the A/C has died, I've pulled the tranny to repair internal damage, I've had to put a clutch in it due to a distributor oil seal failing and soaking the clutch with oil, plus lots of little stuff. Funny thing is that I still love that truck, and didn't think twice about buying the Av. Fortunately (or should I say hopefully) Chevy's quality has improved since then.

Yep . . . my Ford owning friends would call me a Chevy man! ;D ;D

I am a Chevy man but only becuase I like the style of Chevy vehicles over others in the same class.

I've owned trucks since 1987 and up until the new style F-150 I never would have considered a Ford but it was only because of the body style. When the '99 Silverado first came out I hated it. It was only after it grew on me for a year and after I realized that the fender flares made it look better that I decided on buying my '00 Silverado instead of an F-150.

In '99 I traded my '94 Silverado in for a Blazer, I wanted an X-Terra but the Nissan dealer wouldn't give me what my '94 Silverado was worth for a trade, the Chevy dealer gave me more than I wanted so I got the Blazer (and hated it)

I have always liked Gm products...but I have driven my share of non GM cars too.....MERKOR, Isuzu, Mercury, Toyota, etc etc....

I wouldn't call myself brand loyal. I am more than willing to check out any vehicle that interests me, regrdless of maker. I do seem to end up buying GM products the vast majority of the time though!

Friends turned me on to Chevy's in 1962 and by '63 I had my first '57 Chevy. I did buy a Ford Flareside in 1980 because I really liked the style and it was a good truck. I've had nothing but GM pickups since '87 (two '85s, an '88, two '90s a '92, '96, '99 and '01). I really wanted a Ford Supercrew in '01 but it just was not as comfortable as my '99 Sierra so I bought another GMC. I much prefer they style of the Chevy and I think GM has it over both Ford and DC in the performance/economy area. I'm amazed every day I drive it at how well these LS1 engines run! Uh, Jamie....an Av is actually bigger than a Suburban. :B:

Since this is the first Chevy product I have owned I don't consider myself a die hard chevy guy....I guess I haven't had the experience to make a decision based on Chevy properly...I will tell that in my opinion GM has the best trucks and Suv's on the road today. The are for the most part reliable and hard working vehicles.... :B:

Where I work, you have to claim a manufacturer affiliation or you get beat to death from the other guys! So yes, I am a loyal Chevy customer, I believe that their vehicles have better styling than others, and I have owned 69 Nova, 88 extended cab Silverado 4X4, 96 Full size Tahoe and my AV and my wife has a 2002 Cavalier LS she likes very much (32MPG average) We have owned Dodge, Toyota, Ford, and Plymouth, and I am by far happiest with my Chevys.

just my .02,

I test drove a fair number of trucks before I bought my Sierra in '93 and the Av in 2002. There is no comparison between the ride quality of the late model GM trucks and the American competition. The GM's are clearly superior. I can't comment on the foreign trucks since I was only considering full size trucks (I didn't consider the Tundra full size). I did like the Dakota Sport with the V8 however. What a little rocket!

My daily driver has been/always will be a Chevy Truck. From now on its going to be a Avalanche. My wife can drive whatever she wants. I'm not going to push my beliefs on her. She just better not ask to borrow my truck if she buys a Toyota car. :9:

My main vehicle is always a Chevy truck. :B: But I have toys. My two toys are my '62 and '55 Ford Thunderbirds. Where classics are concerned I don't look at manufacturer. My dad and I both spit just at the name of Dodge. But we would both love to have his '68 Dodge Charger back. >:D

I am like you, I base a vehicle by itself, and not by who makes it. My Father is a Ford man, and I will admit that over the history of the line, I would have to say I like the Ford's better than the Chevy's (give or take an early model Corvette, or Camaro).

I personally own besides the Avalanche, a Mercury Mountaineer, VW New Beetle, Mazda RX-7, and have been working on and off on a hot rod that when finished will have stuff on it from almost all the Detroit car companies.

Why limit yourself to one brand? There are many tasty dishes out there.

Virtually NO brand loyalty when it comes to vehicles. This is my 2nd chevy. I have owned 6 fords in the past (mostly classic mustangs I always thought I could fix up).

Heck, I even got into arguements way back in high school as a pro-forder in a group of chevy fans.

Now, its all about which individual vehicle is the best. No manufacturer is better than the others on the whole. Although some never produce anything worth buying.

Basiclly, if it fits our needs and is the best we can afford - we buy it.

I don't think in the long run I will say that I'm exclusive to Chevy either...there is a lot of other cars and trucks out there that I would like to jump at....I'm just hoping that I have a good experience with the Chevy I have now.....my father regrets everyday about buying his Dodge Ram....he still regrets not going Chevy....I don't want to ever go through something like that.... :B:

My Dad's loyalty really cracks me up. He's the poster boy of the good 'ol workin' class American male. I admire him a great deal for that. Like most people, he loves to complain about big business squeezing the little guy out, corporate giants holding the working man down, and the propoganda (and stupidity) behind marketing and advertising.

He is brand-loyal beyond belief. He would probably be willing to die in defense of the Chevy name. Yet he can't see that he's defending one of those big businesses he's constantly ripping on*. He actually spends money to buy Chevy hats and stickers. Can you imagine that? He actually pays Chevrolet for the priveledge of advertising for them! Not that there's anything wrong with that. I pay the Denver Broncos for the priveledge of advertising for them. But it just really seems to go against his anti-corporate nature. I once told him "You are a corporate marketing department's wet dream." He just about killed me for that one. ;D

*For the record, I'm not saying Chevy is a bad company, just a big company.

I would not consider myself a die-hard chevy guy. I just like the looks. If the AV had not come out and Dodge would have come out with a full-size SUV based off of the Ram. I would be driving that. My wife has a Durango and loves it. You would not think so looking at both vehicles, but the AV gives a much smoother ride. I thank Chevy for coming out with the AV and Dodge for not.
 my :B:

Good question! You decide. Vehicles I have owned:

1979 Honda Accord Hatch 5-speed :2:
1983 Nissan 4x4 King Cab Pickup :6: POS
1986 Honda Accord LX-i Hatch 5 Speed ;)
1994 Jeep Wrangler 4.0L 4x4 :-* Great Fun
1997 Kawasaki ZX6-R Motorcycle
1998 Ford F-150 4x4 Long bed Std cab :D:
1999 Chevrolet S-10 ZR2 4x4 Extended cab ;)
2000 Kawasaki ZX6-R Motorcycle
2002 GMC Sierra1500HD 4x4 Crew SLT (totalled) :C:
2002 Chevrolet Avalanche 2500 4x4 8.1L

Seems to me there is a pattern forming here! :B:

I have the potential to become a 'Chevy Chick'! I have had all different vehicles, but mostly GMs. My AV is my first truck, and my favorite ride so far. (besides my Sportster at about 3500 rpm's ;))

Yup, my friends and family would consider me a Chevy man. There's no doubt about it. I'm raised in a GM family (Chevy for trucks and Pontiac for cars). They for the most part were raised in GM families. Then for whatever reason, they switched to Ford 20 years ago. Those cars had so many problems that they switched back to GM and have never changed.

I won't ever change either :B: !

I am loyal to what I drive. I have owned Dodge, Oldsmobile, Honda, Mitsubishi, Chevy, and Datsun. I treated them all like family when I owned them. I have not owned a Ford though. I don't see anything they make that I like.

As for now, I am a Chevy man!! Until I get the Hummer, then I will be a GM man!!!

I would consider myself a chevy fan. I currently own a Corvette, My AV, and a Chrysler Grand Caravan. When it comes to Trucks I am Chevy first, Dodge 2nd, and Throw the ford in the dump. I have owned several chevy trucks and have loved them all. Owned a few chevy cars and they were OK. My first truck was a Ford though and my first car was a chevy chevette my parents bought for me. All in all, Give me a Chevy Truck in the AV flavor ;D

This is my first real GM product purchase, have been in Fords (F150s and a SportTrac :C: ) for quite a while. Best truck I ever owned was the '99 F150 XLT Supercab with fold down rear seats with metal decking, which I stupidly traded in for the SportTrac - a genuine POS, with such consistent power steering problems that Ford Corporate bought me out of it and put me into a SuperCrew Lariat. My experience from that point was the F150 4.6L engine will blow the O2 sensor at 9k and the 4.2L will blow MAIN SEALS at 10k. After 4 in a row (in a 3 year period - I did like the RCO financing), I was looking at a 2002 Mustang when I saw my new baby!

The Avalanche has been on my radar screen since it was first released, but I could never get a Chevy dealer to give me the time of day, plus it really was priced out of my reach, being entrenched as I was in Ford's financing programs. My Av was on the used lot at the Ford house, and at $21,894, was too good a deal to walk away from!!! (1500 Z71, leather, all options except the sunroof). I have not had a real good test of the 4x4 or payload - yet, but I am extremely pleased so far. It is much more comfortable and confident driving than the Lariat Supercrew ever was, and obviously much more flexible.

I will assume that unlike my mom's 1981 Caprice Classic, my AV will not go up in flames in the Jack-in-the-Box drive thru... which is a real good reason why no one in my family has purchased a GM product since the early 80's....

I think all manufacturers have some solid product and some bombs every year, and don't really consider myself a "Chevy" man, but it does appear there are some serious manufacturing issues over at the Ford plants of late, so I will not be going back there for a truck anytime soon (or possible ever, if my AV will stay under me!)
