Are You One Of The exclusive Av (2500) Owners

Count me in! A 2004 came home a couple weeks ago.
So, after upsizing the trailer last summer, the good ol' '99 Sierra 1500 (5.3) was struggling on the hills fully loaded. Prowling the web / forums / local dealers / CL etc. I decided there was a 2500 Avy gonna be callin my name somewhere. Really wasn't planning on the upgrade (understatement) for another year or so, but, while the '99 was still saleable, and with good 2K5's getting scarcer, I figured waiting was not helping the issue. The search began in early November.
After test-driving a 2002 in NH that had some minor issues, I rather lucked out finding a squeaky clean '04 next town over. 98K mi, new tires in 2013, spent half of the last 6 years in FL (towing boat to and fro) so New England winters were missed for about half her life. The PO must be a lost long cousin or something, a some of what he did is stuff I would have been doing anyway (go figure) MagnaFlow duals, Bilstein shocks etc. Throw in the heated leather, 6-cd changer, Bose speakers, 9K GVW brakes, electric extending trailer mirrors, 3.73 posi, blah blah... a winner hands down!  the only thing I didn't get was the sunroof and icemaker...
I just need to rewire the brake controller from the Sierra, and re-bush the drivers door hinge, and changeover / add a few LED's and I'm done!
Thanks for this forum, as you guys were a big part of my decision making.

Just an awesome tow vehicle aren't they.

I picked up an '02 2500 Avalanche last Oct. I got it for a steal. It's completely mechanically sound. It just needs some cosmetic work done which I'm working on. It has 182K on it, but no leaks or any regular issues. I bought it as an offroad toy. So far I've done a 3" suspension lift, 17" wheels, 33" tires, new tonneau covers, complete stereo system with unique sub solution, and currently working on the front end. Just thought I'd sound off as an owner.

I picked up my 04 I think in summer of 2012 with 25K on her. Even now I think I only have 33K

Just bought a 2002 bright red 2500. It is in perfect condition and even has a factory Avalanche grill guard. I am totally amazed with this truck and the power that it has when I pull my camper. I am new to this sight, so I will post a picture when I read how to do it.

you guys with the 2500's, would you still buy one if you had no or very low likelihood of ever towing? Like would you buy one to drive to/from work every day 50 miles per day?

If you don't mind the bad mileage sure, my Av is a daily driver 99.99 percent of the time

ok cool!  i drive a V8 sedan everyday and in traffic i am getting 13mpg, highway is double that.  but i am stuck in traffic 9/10 times. and im burning 93oct.

Drive mine every day 52 mile round trip, 243,000 plus miles, besides mods/upgrades and normal maintenance items it's all original motor, trans, rear/front end and transfer case..

Only down side of the 2500 AV is the mileage, otherwise it's the best Avalanche..

Yes. My 2003 2500 2WD with 8.1 is a work horse. How do I find out how many were made like mine?

You can use compnine.com.  It used to be free, but now you have to pay.  There might be another site that tells you, but I'm not aware of them.

Missed this thread.

November 20017 found the bad ars twin of my 03 1500.

I am an exclusive owner of a 2002 2500 4x4 black with 100K miles 502 cubic inch motor and I love it if I can find the water leak(s) I am currently experiencing. I pull a 8.5 X 20 enclosed trailer and it goes without any problem. Last time I was in Vegas Chevy was holding something big at the Cosmopolitan where we stayed. I was on the elevator when a big dog with GM Trucks stepped on the elevator. I told him I was a multiple Avalanche owner and I asked him what should I do because as they keep dying off they are harder and harder to find. I finally told him "Hey why don't you bring them back in 2020 and come out with a limited number of the 2500's but have an option for a Duramax with the Allison Tranny". I looked at his face and I know for a fact he heard exactly what I said and he was processing it for sure. They would cost us 60,000 but we would have our trucks for twenty years.

well if ya ever see him again, tell him someone in Alaska was tired of GM and built his own... 80 thousand miles on the conversion. About the same performance but twice the mileage >:D

2002 Pewter 2500 owner here... 2nd AV now, had to upgrade from the 1500 for the toy hauler. This beast has 225k on it, so a few issues with leaks, but after 2 years, most of them are gone.

Great find.

Pretty old posting but still. . . .

I have a 2005 2500 Avalanche, Sun burst Orange. Just love my truck. Had to replace the transfer case a few months back then took care of some minor repairs but it's a great truck. Then, I just bought a 2009 black Z71 1500 Avalanche with 57,281 miles. I was originally purchased in Canada then transferred to WA state when I bought it. It cost me almost 10k but nice. Driving these two Avalanches I must say the 8.1 ltr truck sure has the power when you need it but the 1/2 ton is better on long trips. Back when I just had the 2500 I did drive the truck from WA state to Iowa round trip. Used lots of gas but what a nice ride. I won't have any other truck besides a Avalache.
