Australian Avalanche Adventures

Skidds, Me and the Mrs say congrats on finally getting the AV in your hands (y)....I know what you are talking about about turning heads, I bought mine early July 2001...one of the first in WV, every where I took it people would get neck strain trying to get a good look...it was almost comical...me and Mrs. Bubba would laugh histerically....filling up with gas always took longer because you would have to explain what it was and how it work, well 19 months and 100,000 AV's later doesn't turn as many heads...but still get compliments on it (y)

You really did it!!!1  :B:

Cool.......Make sure you take pics of conversion......

When can we all visit you and the Little Miss?

$50.00? and it isn't full? ?How much is fuel down there? ?Up here $50 would fill me up and have enough left over for a good lunch.

Great to hear that you got your truck!

I was thinking the same thing. Skidd, what does a tank of Petrol set you back down there? Inquiring minds want to know what the going rate for Petrol is in AU.

OK then lets see..... our current average pump price is $1.01.9 cents per litre

So that $50.00 was only 49 litres or 12.94 gallons, now to fill the beastie from empty would be..

37.5 gallon tank = 142 litres @ 1.019 $ per litre = $144.70 to fill it (Aussie dollars)

At current exchange rate that is $85.0559 US dollars. ? :6:

But hey it could be worse, I could be filling up in the UK. ?:cautious:

Skidd,

In the time you waited for it I put over 11K on mine......
The feeling when I get behind the wheel hasn't changed a bit............

It HAD to be worth the wait...

Congratulations!! ;D ;D

Jake

Congrat's Skidd! WOOOO HOOOOO!!!!! ;D  :B: I know it was worth the wait! And at least you got a taste to hold you over 'till it comes back from the engineer's. ;)

Thanks for everything you contributed to this site as a non-owner. (y) You are a true AV spirit! I'm looking forward to pics of your baby and it's one-of-a-kind RHD AV mod!

Jen

Well after my drive to deliver the av to the engineer we washed her thoroughly, so we could give her the once over for damage. ?Of course I had to take some photos while she was so new and so clean.

Here's the other one, I know it's probably plain to you super modified lot of av owners... but remember this is the only one I've ever seen and to me she is georgous!

Tomorrow I'm taking a trip down to the engineer to talk dates and preferences (I'll need the seat moved back about an inch). Stay tuned for an update on how we are going.

Skidd, there is a dearth of adequate things to say to someone who has waited this long for a dream to come true - just a little longer and you will be cruising the beaches, turning young things heads and having a ball (y) (y) (y)

No encouragement required. He can't however keep up with his current model, anything younger and it might kill him :-*

Well, it has been a long time since I have been to the site (not able to get on the computer due to the husbands excitement). and boy is he excited ;D I only hope that things go ok with all the conversion or he is going to be a bear with a sore head. Not happy that the roof racks weren't on the av, as directed, back checking order forms, yes they were supposed to be fitted. Ooopps  we have an an expression down here when somebody can be so particular about every little thing and everything has to be exactly the way the want it.."ANAL" Yes my husband has become anal about his av. That was even before it got in the country. Can anybody possibly imagine the pressure the guy doing the conversion is now under

Yes, we have a lot of the ANEL syndrome here in the club! Just wait untill Skidd gets to modding!

Well a trip to the engineer yesterday didn't bring any good news. :(

I've been told that they cannot start my conversion for the next 3 weeks. Then the conversion will still take about 4 weeks and so the new pick up date will be about the end of April. Lots of issues that are not as I would like. The original av tail lights will not pass the Australian Design Rules and so are not permitted to be used. This means we will have to mount some LED stop / tail / indicators on the bumper bar.

Gotta go and sook to the missus now so that she doesn't feel left out. ;)

?Congrats Mr. & Mrs. Skidd on your new arrival. I am so very excited upon hearing you finially got her. Sorry to hear about your tail lights. Just consider it a MOD. Do you think perhaps the line of fire would work in this case? I think it operates with the brake and turn signals.
Try not to get too discouraged with all the modifications you must endure within the next few weeks to get your Baby home and on the road. You will not be dissapointed once all is as it should be.
And remember, Mrs. Skidd is on your side too and wants things to go well for you. She loves you and wouldn't have supported this if she didn't. She is your friend and is there for you if things should get tough.
I wish you all the best and in the end you will be so very Proud to have provided your beautiful AV a home in such a beautiful land and all the headaches shall pass.

Can you use the "Line of Fire"?

store_jp_customs_02_left_image.jpg

Yeah...can you?

Pssst...Skidd...Now's the time to perform a tail-light mod...its the perfect 'excuse'! You have to change it anyways...why not make it good while you're at it? ;)

Thanks for all the good ideas folks, the problem is that there has been no testing done in Australia on the original av lamps. ?So part of the conversion process is to supply evidence that the lamps meet the Australian Design Rules (ADR's). ?This is a costly exercise for just one vehicle so the best solution is to mount lamp assemblies that we know to comply on the bumper and disconnect the others. ?The line of fire would have the same "not tested to ADR's" problem. ?Also there are rules about the viewing angle for lamps... that is that stop and tail lights must be visable from a 90o angle (can bee seen from the side), so this will pretty much rule out the line of fire as well. ?Of course the ADR's require indicator lenses to be amber. ?

Anyway once it's delivered to me I don't think it will be long before she looks normal again.

All this is true  I don't know whether I had too much to do with the decision of purchase or ever had a chance to prevent it but when somebody is so passionate about something I don't think it is wise to stand in their way. :0: I don't want to upset too many people with my next comment but I do like to tease him about about the Av looking like a sandshoe  You know, that big plastic looking thingy that goes around the bottom of the av, I'm sure they modelled that on some Nike' or something >:D

Now there's an idea for a mod :0: Get a vinyl Nike swoosh and put on the rear quarter panels where the 4x4 or Z71 stickers go. >:D

My god man... don't encourage her!! She's hard enough to live with as it is now without getting a prod from well meaning commentators.

Say Skidd... You posted in another thread that they're starting the RH conversion soon. Do you get to watch at all? Take pictures? That would be mega-cool.

Yes mate the conversion will probably start in the second week of April. They have promised they will ring me when they start. The engineers workshop is about a two hour drive from where I live and work so it won't be easy to get there very often. I have been told that I can take some photos so I'll try and time my visits for when there is the most to see. (y)

I'll be sure to post the pics in our existing RH conversion thread... and here of course 'cos I guess it's a continuation of the Australian Avalanche story.

I was running the numbers, and the above $AUS cost/litre comes out to about $US 2.267/gal.

At today's date, that would be pretty close to most of the gas prices I saw in the San Jose area last weekend.

Lukily, here in the Phoenix area, we are still hovering in the $1.70 range.

Man, even with the 1500's tank of 31 gallons, you're talking close to $70 for a complete fill up. :C:
