Auto Rear Windows - BEWARE!!

That is a compelling reason, no doubt. But the car they are talking about doesn't have automatic UP windows to begin with. It was a faulty switch which can happen in any power window vehicle. That is why she is going after the dealer for not fixing it.

As for the automatic windows topic, I have them in my AV and love them. All it takes is a couple of pounds resistance and the relay shuts off the power to the motor and it stops. The module actually senses the extra current draw when resistance is put on the motor to prevent accidents like this from happening.

While the tragic death of this child is something to think about, it really doesn't change things in this application.

I cannot understand how the window rolled up with out the key being on? Maybe I just mised something. My dog tried to roll up his neck up in the window when he stepped on the button. Since then I always turn them off, excellent feature. What a terriable story, thats a horriable thing to have happen.

Personally I don't like the express down windows and never really saw any need for them. I never found it that difficult to hold my finger on the button for one more second. BTW, is there a way to disable that function?

I have the auto down feature, but i don't think I have a auto up feature. To tell you the truth I don't think any of my family cars have that feature. I might be missing something too. That is very sad to hear.

I actually like the design of the AV's power window buttons. Accidentally hitting it to cause it to go down is easy since it takes a downwards motions on the button to activate it.

But, to bring the window up you have to physically place your finger under the button and lift up. Not likely to happen accidentally. Would prevent pets from stepping on the button or children from leaning on it and causing this type of terrible accident.

I say the General put some real effort into this design to prevent these problems. :B:

Never heard of anyone being killed by the window opening. Though you could argue that a child or animal could fall out of the window once it is open. That's where I blame the parents for not watching their kids.

I don't know about that particular vehicle, but we have a Volkswagen that you can open and close the windows in after key removal for a short time (it's on some kind of timer or something). It is rather convenient at times.

Also, the VW has express/auto UP too (as I'm sure there are other vehicles with them too)...also convenient.

Yes it's a tragic story, but it sounds isolated and defective to me.

I understand that the boy had a key, so it may have been in the ignition. The video showed a switch marked "Auto" near the window switches. Does this model Buick have an express up and express down feature?

I have a large problem with this report. I have never seen a GM car with "Express UP" power windows.
I owned a 98 Buick Regal with ALL of the options that I could get on it (see list below). As you can see, there is a note for "Driver's side window express DOWN".
I feel really bad for the family of this boy, but the mother should have NEVER given him the keys to the car. What if he started it, and took a joy ride? I think he was playing with the window (with the ignition off, and the car on "Retained Accessory Power", and the power shut off.
Just my 2 Cents worth...

We have a 2003 VW Passat that has the auto-up feature for the front windows. It takes only a minor resistance for the window to detect an obstacle and roll back down.

My friend owns a ford sport trac and the back window has a safety feature where is something prvents it from closing fully, it automatically goes down. ?Although this story is tragic, I didn't know they made express up in rear windows of model year '98. ?
Moral of this story: children should never be left unattended.
