I hit a deer last night on the way home. Dented the left front fender and hood. Now, I'm thinking heavy duty brush guard.

Anyone out there had a similar experience and recommendations for bumber guards??

Thanks in advance.

Bob,

I had a scare with only 8 miles on the odo. A buck run amock in NJ brushed my front fender at dusk. I too thought about getting guards for the same reason, but a few of my truckin' buds said the guards can actually do more damage.

For instance, a friend of mine with a Silverado had an unplanned offroad experience and the guard did more damage to the front end than if he just hit a few small trees with his front bumper.

The guard was forced into the hood and crushed the front grill and radiator as well!

I would like to know if anyone on the board has had a similar experience to yours with the guards on and with what brand/model of guard.

Are you going to be having a group buy on deer sausage? hehe

Sorry, to hear about your damage :C: :D:. How bad is it? pics?

 :B:

Man, when you said AV 1 deer 0 I sure was hoping you were going to say the AV didn't have a scratch on it. That sucks! :E:
If I were you I'd get it fixed and attach one of those guards.

Saddest site in the world is a dented Av............ Well, almost.

aaahhh venison... I prefer to have our ground a little more conventionally but hey...

I am glad everyone is ok though. Check out the threads from way back where a brush guard saved the AV from a similar incident. It may take a bit of searching but I remember a few times AVs and deer have met. At least once with a brush guard saving the AV from more extensive damage.

I did a lot of offroading in WA in my old K5 and will say that there is a difference in guards. I saw many different guards pushed into grills and hoods. I ended up building my own due to what I was putting it through.
The most improtant issues in the construction of what ever you buy are:
1. Tubing wall thickness.
2. Triangular configuration of the horizontal tubes.
3. High grade steel
and
4. High grade mounting bolts.

IMHO Its like picking your significant other... choose them for looks or choose them for reliability. (Some of us are lucky and get both. >:D)

Rcornwell1, roch207 put it very simply, you gotta get aan SOR bumper. If you really want to save yourself some big $$$$ down the road, get an SOR. If you sit down and think about it, if you get another brushguard probably($500), and bumper replacement($400+), hood($100-200) and fenders($200). That is a pretty nice bill  :C:. That is something that you'll be looking at the next time you hit a deer, or slide into a car or tree or snow bank. Roch207, did damage to his front bumper, and figured that an SOR is a good longterm investment for his AV.
All I ask is that you give Ben at Stealth Off-Road a call and talk to him about it. You don't need all the extras, I'd recommend the brush guard and maybe the light package, and even though the price my seem a little steep, think about it in a longterm sense, one payment of 2Gs or multiple payments over the life of your AV for new bumpers and brushguards which after the second accident will definitely cost you more $$$$ than the SOR bumper would have the first time. If you hit a deer with the SOR, that deer is gonna feel you long after you have gone by, whereas you hit a deer with the stock bumper and a B.G. you will be :8: :C:, and even though the deer is dead he is still smiling, because he caused you a @$$ load of money.

Please give Ben a call @ 877-429-4624. Save yourself money , make your AV safer and give your AV a nice new look (y).

Just wanted to thank everyone for their replies and brush (deer) guard suggestions. I haven?t received the bid from the body shop yet I?ll keep you posted. For the guys that wanted deer jerky, venison stew, etc. etc. Here?s the ?Rest of the Story.? After I pulled to the side of the road and got out to look at the damage. A city utility pick up truck stops, the guys gets out and drags the doe off the road. He comes up to me asking if I wanted the doe. ?Nope? I said. He pulls out a healthy looking pocket knife and said ?I?ll cut her throat and take her home? ?Have at it? was my reply. As I?m pulling away, he?s tossing the deer in the back of the city truck headed home, I presume with dinner.
