I'm looking to upgrade my wheels on my 02 2500. I have a buddy willing to give me some 50% tread life BFG KO2s, but they are 17" tires. I could get a set of 17" wheels, but quite frankly I don't know what size rim to get. 17x8 I think is what I'd want, but what offset? I currently have spacers on the rear to make them flush, I' prefer to have all the wheels flush.

Is anyone running a set of 275/70R17 tires on 17x8 wheels?

If 17x8 aren't recommended I may just buy some 285s for my stock wheels.

Thanks for any help you can be!

I have hummer h2 wheels which are 17x8.5, but you may have to use a 2 inch spacer on the rear. 265 70 17 tire. If you go 285 you are going to have to lift the front a tad.

I forgot to mention I do have the front leveled.

Tire rack has some nice wheels that are 17x8 with 0MM offset, I just cant seem to find anyhwere that will show/tell me how they'd fit in the wheel well. I do already have spacers in the back, I think the may be 1.5 or 2 Inch. The rear stock PY0 wheel sits flush with the fender

I think @Randy may be able to help you more. I think there may be some trimming involved.

The more I look at the H2 wheels with the stock center caps the more I like them. Would those fit with just the truck leveled? Would I need to remove my rear spacers or do they stay?

Yes I have seen that done, but with the 2 inch spacers on the rear you can use the H2 caps.cladding.jpg

Does your truck have spacer blocks in the rear or stock? Maybe my search skill sucks, but it seems much harder to come by 2500 information than 1500.

I see level kits with the rear spacer blocks but dont quit understand how that works in conjunction with the leveling keys

You're not crazy, it's often really hard to find the information you need for a 2500. Even dealerships struggle with it because GM didnt do a great job documenting it.

I'll definitely leave this one to MS03, but i just wanted to do some googling in case i wanted to do the same.

From what i can pull from the internet, the OEM wheel for the 2500 is +28mm (wheel-size.com and a couple tire suppliers have them listed as direct fit. One of us should measure if it isnt already known)

The same site has the 17" H2 wheel listed as +18mm.

Yeah the rear has 2inch spacers that I had on before the H2 wheel were put on. Most of the 2500 owners knew the rear axle width is 3 inches narrower than the front.

Raekal that is correct stock chrome wheels are 28mm and H2 are 18mm but it has 8 lugs so it won't cause a problem.

Now Randy has a slight lift and I think 285 on mine non lifted I have about 1/4 inch clearance between the tire and the wheelwell with the 265s

Mine has a 6" lift with 17" rims and 305 Goodyears, no spacers. There's a slight rub when they are new but goes away after about 5,000 miles. I could probably eliminate that if I did some trimming but don't really feel the need because like I said it's slight.. I think most stock 2500's can run 285's max with little or no rub like MS03 2500 has..

The 6" lift is just a number the the manufacture because the way the AV's come is with the front about three to four inches lower than the back.

So when I put on the lift and tires the front actually raised 9 inches measured at the front fender lip and the back came up about 5 inches at the fender lip with the 4" blocks under the leaf springs.. But with the truck now sitting level (Front slightly lower) if you measure the tailgate in the down position it is only 2-1/2 inches higher than stock because when the front went up the body pivoted on the rear axle so everything behind the axle went down so it really did not affect lifting anything into the bed.

That's interesting about the 6" lift Randy...I had no idea about any of that. I've been looking at some of the lift kits but at $3200+ installed its kinda hard to pull the trigger on that.

So, from what I can gather, I can use the American Racing Outlaw 2 with 25mm offset OR the H2 wheels. The question now is whether or not 285/70-17 will fit with a leveled truck

My lift is made by Full Traction, and I've been very happy with it with no issues at all. I paid $1,500 for plus installation but that was many years ago.. There are many more lifts out there for the 2500 now but I have not researched any of them..

Here is my lift, with shocks it shows it sells for $1,900 plus tax and shipping ($250-$300) it would probably around $2,200.. You defiantly want to go with Bilstein's 5100's on whatever lift you go with as they will give you the best ride and handling..

I would say the 285/70-17 would fit since the overall diameter is only about 1.3 inches taller than the stock 265/75-16's so you're only adding about 5/8 of an inch..

Hello,
I'd like some opinions if this setup would work.
I have a 2002 Avalanche 2500 4WD. The stock wheels were a 245/75/16. For years I've used Alcoa wheels and 265/75/16 tires without an issue.

I've now bought Method Racing 705 wheels which are a 17x8.5. I'm wondering what size tires to use. I'm interested in BFG All-Terrain or Mud-Terrain 265/75/17 or 275/65/17 tires. I could go either way.

Can I reprogram the body control module on the truck? Any opinions as to which size would be better? I don't think that these are too radical.

Since we are opening an old thread... Can you get a 3" lift front knuckle? And are the knuckles the same between 2wd and 4wd?
Looking at putting 3/4 ton knuckles on the front of my truck to match the H2 rear end and springs which lift it by about 3". Saw somewhere the knuckle will bolt right up to a 1500 as long as you replace the bottom ball joint. Which requires slight opening of the hole on the lower control arm to fit the larger ball joint.

Will likely be upgrading to the 4l80e and 3/4 tc to help support the much more powerful engine this truck will have. (The 6.6l engine previously known as an LQ9 will get a blower on it in a year or two shooting for 800-900hp range so it will definitely need it. Currently back in the machine shop getting the engine redone due to it sitting for the past year as a long block and getting some rust on it. Will be in my truck by end of January)
