Hi all,,,
Took my truck to the Dyno shop today to get the ho-down on the Magnaflow install... Well, bad news first... The exhaust system on my AV Z-71 is Stainless up to the collector, then from there back is aluminized... That's the pipe before the muffler, the muffler, and tail pipe... All aluminized...
?... It doesn't really matter to me in AZ, but it would be nice if the sticker says stainless, at least it could mean ALL ! ... Also, the mid pipe between the Y-Collector and the muffler is not 3" ... It's 2 3/4 ... Not a big deal it's only another 4 ft of straight pipe to convert it ($10) ... So, my install including 3" mid pipe, and 3" mandrel tail pipe with my Magnaflow is $165 ... He can utilize the factory tail by removing the Y back there, but can't Mandrel bend the piece to cut the corner there... It would have to be crimp-bended... If I went that way, I could save $75 on the tail pipe... That would be $90 including the 3" mid, and utilizing the factory tail... I think I will just spend the money for all 3" and mandrel bent... I called perf. intnl., and they sell the full cat back to us for $460 + $20 shipping... I guess I'm getting the same thing welded for $207 cheaper... I don't think the mid pipe being 2 3/4 is a big deal, but for $10 more I'll do it...
Now the good news... They were backing a 2003 Avalanche Z-71 off the Dyno with 800 miles on it... In Black no less! ? Drum roll ....... ?It made 217 HP ... It was stock... Owner said the 2002s make the same...His own custom exhaust does 22-26, His proprietary cold air kit makes 10-15, and his Billet MAF housing makes 10-12, and utilizes the oem insides... Those are individual gains... A 4x4 Sierra 5.3 with all that made 258 to the ground on a 103 degree day... ALL OF THE MODS MAKE POWER FROM IDLE ON UP TO PEAK... I made sure I asked him that!!!
I can tell you all how he builds the cold air kit, but off board PM only... I don't think he wants it advertised... It's pretty simple and ingenious... I had one on my 99 Silverado 5.3...
Laterzzz.................
