Up until recently, I have received nothing but rave reviews and compliments from everyone regarding my Av. Well - last week I was talking to a co-worker, who thinks he's a real macho kind of manly truck guy. He told me that the Av is hideous, and is nothing more than a Yuppie vehicle. I don't really care what the guy thought, nor was I offended. But that was the first time I heard such a response.

Has anyone else received that kind of feedback?

What does he drive?

TE

Yeah, I'm a yuppie. It's OK. People will always bash what they don't like, don't understand, or can't afford. :)

I know a lot of people now like the Av since I bought mine. These are the same people that hated it based on pictures and claimed the "tupperware" was hideous. Now they want me to drive to lunch!

I've rambled, but that's nothing new...

Any vehicle can be a yuppie mobile.
The difference is in what you do with it.
Do you have someone detail your AV twice a week? = Yuppie
Have you ever actually carried anything in the bed of your AV (besides your golf clubs)? No = Yuppie
Do you take your AV camping...to a resort hotel, and never in the woods = Yuppy
My AV is lucky to get a bath once a month, due to the NC monsoons this year. My AV has hauled everything from 12 foot long drywall sheets, to tools, to plants and dirt. In 2 weeks it will have a canoe, a kayak, and camping gear for 4 burly men. I camp as often as possible, from overnight on the Blue Ridge Parkway (Rock Castle Gorge), to 5 nights spelunking (without seeing daylight), to 5 days camping in the Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest (most beautiful hike I have ever done), to 4 days of camping at the Jeep Jamboree (I know, it was with 3 friends).
I am not a yuppie, because I don't act like one.
Period.

Good points Prince! I have another co-worker that drives a Lexus RX300, and uses it only to commute to work and get groceries. That's definitely YUPPIE!

Meanwhile, my Av has been in mud pits and blizzards, campgrounds and pulled a camper, been stuffed with building supplies, sheds, appliances and a canoe.

I'm sure some of the cowboy's down here in Oklahoma City and down further in Texas (Banderas) would be interested to see how the guy came up with that idea. Personally, I think it's kinda hard to call something a yuppie vehicle if it's hauling bails of hay out to the fields.

I'm sure the bulls out there would have something for that guy though. Realizing that the standard yuppie wouldn't ever dream of driving the Av out on these fields.

Quick sidenote: whenever the Av goes out to the fields, the damn bull walks away (SCARED or does it just realize it's place?). It sure is funny, unless he charges that is (Don't think the cladding would be able to stand up to one of those, but I'll guarantee it'd be the last time he charges it! :E:)

Yuppie as opposed to what? Red-Neck, Pavement Princess, Work Truck, Plain-Jane? Are Cadillac EXTs and Hummer H2s Yuppie trucks too? I would imagine that to the average Joe anyone who spends $40K on a truck that doesn't have an obvious talent for some specific task (towing, plowing, etc.) has too much money to spend (and maybe is a Yuppie?). What they don't realize is that the Avalanche's is so versatile that it's specific task is to do just about everything better than any truck that isn't specifically suited to that task.

I think Yuppie started out as
Young Upwardly mobile Professional - A serious demographic category for marketing.
The later one that amuses me more is DINKY (Double Income No Kids Yet) - an even more slatheringly attractive demographic for marketers.

I'm too old to be considered young, too contrary to be upwardly mobile, and too weird to be considered a professional... ;D

You should post a pic of his ride :)

What happened here, didn't we used to think of Beemers ans such as a Yuppie vehicle?

Butch

Do you know what happens to a DINK (or DINKY)? They become a SITCOM--Single Income two (or three) children, oppressive mortgage.

I think a lot of vehicles could be considered "YUPPIE" including BMW's (that's BIMMER, not BEAMER), Mercedes, Lexus, Infiniti, etc. I think that people see us with $40k trucks may think that we are YUPPIES, but I'll always stick to my case that my Avalanche is the most useful vehicle I've ever owned. I can all 5 people, turn it into a full size truck...ah never mind. I'm preaching to the choir here. :D

Yuppie smuchie!!!

I am an AV'ie!

My Av eats yups for lunch, now if it could do something with the damn rice burners!! I have smoked so many so called Yuppie machines and the occasional ricer! ( I had a ricer challenge me to a race, lower RSX type S, though he was going to have fun with me! So I said sure if I get to pick the road! Well his mistake, paved road turned to pot holes and then off road! I sure did enjoy that case of beer!! He had to drive aorund 10 miles and was so pissed! It was fun!!)

SO the new term should be AV'ie

It's obvious that since he can't afford one he has to catagorize the AV into a class that he doesn't like.

I bet the vehicle that he would like to have could easly be classed into a "Yuppie Vehicle"

It's all a matter of perspective. And he's on the outside looking in.

I have read everyones comments and the first thing that popped into my head was, "Have you driven over a ford lately"!

As for being a yuppie, the closest thing to that was being called a sick puppy

I think he don't like it cuz he can't afford it but really wants one and won't admitt it.

When I was young enough I wasn't "upwardly mobile". By the time I was upwardly mobile I was too old to be a Yuppie. Now I'm just Married, Old, and Trying to Survive.(MOTS) But.....even though my Av is only a $34k truck not $40, I paid less for it than our '96 Explorer, just slightly more than my '99 Sierra, and less than my '01 Sierra. So at least I'm a smart MOTS!
