AV Rescue Mission

GUEST
well, other day i stepped outside to goto work( :9:at 10pm)and "oh sh$t" snowing.... not heavy snow, not a lot either, but just the right kind to make some REALLY bad driving conditions.

as i make the 35mile trek to work, I'm seeing people spinning around every where, a couple of fender benders, but mostly just people doing the 'ol 360 over an over again, like in that commercial for VW.

as i am going up an on ramp on a clover leaf, the car in front of me loses control and slides down into the middle of the clover leaf.
now just to clarify the situation, in MN they like to put little nature seines in the middle of the clover leafs. lakes trees, that kinda stuff.
this car is now sitting about half way down a 70 or so foot "cliff" at about 75ish degrees down angle, hanging nose first over an icy lake. i pull up on the edge of the embankment hop out and grab the 30' tow strap that i always have in my tool box. snap it onto my trailer hitch, and slide down the slope and snap the other end onto a hook on the back of the car.

i scramble my way back up the hill and jump back into my avalanche. I hit the 4LO button, and just as the transfer case locks in, the car breaks loose and falls another 15' until its caught by the strap.

I drop it into 3rd gear and bury the gas peddle >:D
mudd, snow and grass are flying from all four tires. the sweet sound of a true dual cat-back exhaust system rips through the air, and i drag the little honda back up the side of the cliff onto the road!
quite possible saving two peoples lives.

as they get out of their car they ask," that's that chevy avalanche isn't it?"...."yup" I say....the man looks at me an says "i will never think that they are ugly again"

That is by far one of the Best AV stories I have ever red. You should send a copy of this to Luv2boat, the editor of the Avalanche Zone magazine. You performed honorably.
I wish more people were like you, when things go wrong. I hate to think that others would have driven away, or had been unable to help. Way to go :D

that's awesome...i need to get some straps and some chain and a comealong since i like to spend quality time off road...plus i need to learn the skills of pulling others out when they are stuck...it would have came in handy

What an excellent story! Good job j75player .

That would be a good story for a future issue of the Avalanche Zone.

I wonder if the people in the Honda were environmentalists that protest SUVs? ?Not any more! ? (y)

now THAT would be interesting ;)
you certainly cant pull anything out of a ditch with a toyota echo

i always try to pull people out, but this was definetly the most dramatic rescue that i have ever give'n.

i'm just glad that there was a hook on the back end of the car. i was worried when i was on my way down that there wouldnt be anything to hook onto. there have been several times when i have gone to pull someone out of a ditch where that lill 'ol car has nothing but plastic in the ends of the vehical! nothing to get a solid pull form. them people get stuck with a 3 hour wait and the $150 tow truck bill! :-X

just glad to help............
plue, its always fun to spin the tires a lill >:D

Nice work, j75! Too bad there wasn't a news crew around. ;D

You are a real hero! A lot of people would have just drove on by!

You da Man!

Quick work, cool head. Awesome! (y)

Can you image this thing trying to tow something?

Great job j75 (y). There are a lot of people who drive Fords that would just drive by and laugh but not you :).

Great to hear that we have another "Avalanche believer" too.

no, no brochures, I have a top of the line computer, but a peace of crap printer. I would have had some pix, but i have a digital camera with a liquid plasma display, it would freeze if i left it in the truck while i am at work. would have been nice to get some pix tho.

I loved how you repelled down the hill from the tow strap attatched to the bumper, sounds like an adventure story!

Great looking TRUCK, j75. A big, red rescue wagon!

Sounds like this was NOT your first rescue in that machine, correct?

Any more rescue stories?

well, I have pulled out quite a few vehicles with my truck. ?Although this was definitely the most dramatic! ?

One time, I got a call form my brother-in-law, he and two of his friends had gone out mudding. ?A 1995 F-250 w/6"lift an 35s, ?a early 80 something F150 8" an 38s, and an old international scout! All stuck! The two fords had both broken their front axles and were stuck in 2X4, and the scout was just plain buried. ?

First the scout had gotten stuck, then the F250 tried to pull it out an got stuck, then the other ford tried to pull out the F250 an got stuck! ?silly ford owners

so Brad(bro-in-law) calls me up at 10pm last june....
"hay jeff, do you think that you could come over an maybe pull me out?". a chance to pull out a ford? hell yea!"no problem, I'll be right over!"

had a few straps hooked together out to about 60 foot.
popped them fords out one at a time ;D
