just wondering if anybody's fabricated there own roof rack for the AV, i don't have one but i'd like to make one that's a little more rugged than what chevy provides. if so what size tubing/conduit did you use... got any pics?

Anyone ever think about putting a custom made detachable rack above the bed instead of on the roof? I was thinking about doing this because i really like the hard cover for the bed, but would like more room. I think adding a cage might be a sweet idea. Of course it has to be removeable so that you can utilize the whole bed without the hard cover.
Using the hard cover, with a detachable rack, would be a great idea. A friend of mine transports his dog box, on top or the hard covers, but he just straps it down.
Some sort of detachable rack should be a hot item.

i agree, that would be a great idea. i was thinking that for camping and road trips that all our clothes could go in the bed to keep everything weatherproof. the all the kids toys and other stuff could go in rubbermaid totes or action packers and be tied down onto the rack. we need to figue something out. i'll take a look.
