Getting off work the other day I jump in my AV, check all the mirrors, put it in reverse, and let off the gas. Looking over my sholder, I start to back out when, CRUNCH!!!! I slam the brakes and pull forward. Getting out I go back to get the bad news : .... one of my stupid employees had parked RIGHT behind me. Needless to say it wasn't pretty. I had rolled right up the hood of this mustang creaming the front end. Turning to look at the back of my AV to see how bad it was, I was very suprised! It took me about 5 minutes to find the scrach on my bumber (the only damage to the AV). No one could belive that I had no damage!

The mustang spent 3 weeks in the shop! Grand total in damages -- $5,000. ( he had to pay)

I'm sorry...but that was just stupid of him. My '62 Thunderbird is incredibly long....but its also very low. I NEVER park behind or on the passenger side of large vehicles.

I stopped using the curb assist feature because I didn't want to go Mustang (or any other vehicle) hunting. Twice I have been within inches of an insurance claim backing up.
With the curb assist feature on the 2003's I could see the ground well but not the 3000# car I was just missing.

I still don't understand how you got out of paying.

You hit a parked car. Simple as that. Blame it on the other guy all you want, but it sure sounds like it was your fault. Doesn't matter how many times you checked you mirrors and looked around.

If some ass in a big truck hit my parked car, I'd be all over him AND his insurance company. Would anybody here do any less?

And you say it was one of "your" employees? And you call them "stupid"? Hmmm. Who hit the parked car?

Perhaps I need to switch over to your insurance carrier.

Some people really don't like the cladding, and some...errr....even paint it

I see the cladding as light armor that guards against parking lot dings. Painting it makes it look really really great, but if you get scratch the purpose is partly defeated.

Thats my story and I'm stickin' to it.

I do not belive that you understand the situation fully. The Mustang was illegally parked behind the AV. He was almost under the bumper to star with. The acident was his fault not mine.

By no means am I attempting to get into a pissing contest with you.

All I am saying is that no matter how this other car was parked, you hit him! You hit a stationary object! Does it really matter how or where he was parked? What if it had been a 3 year old kid? How about a dog? Would that be their fault? I don't think so. Perhaps I don't understand the situation (it's really none of my business - I'm just writing about it because you chose to share it with us), or perhaps I'm unclear on the law.

My old car was hit out in front of my house several months ago. The punk even tried to take off after he did it, but thankfully my neighbors got his plate. You're damn right he paid up after the police showed up at his door.

Someone please educate me on the law. If I can legally run over people/cars that aren't where they're supposed to be, I've got quite a list to get started with! Beginning with all the punk kids that stroll out into traffic like they have every right to do so!

This topic is about a month old, but I'd like to chime in.

My wife had a 1999 Rodeo (actually, we'll have it for another month) that we replaced with a 2003 Z71 Av last week. During the first year she had it, I always complained about the spare tire on the back because it obstructed my view.

One night we left a fully packed bar (I was fully sober) and I was backing out of the parking space. I backed into an illegally parked Accord. It was even in a fire lane. The spare tire put a nice dent in the rear quarter of the Honda.

I left a note and took care of it with the insurance the next day. I stated that the other car was illegally parked, but they told me it was stationary and I backed into it.

Sounds similar....either you got off lucky, or I got screwed with an "at fault" claim.
