Purchased a new 04 Avalance a few days ago. I just noticed that the truck appears to be leaning to the driver's side. Measurements made from the garage floor to both the front and rear bumpers reveal the the passenger side is app. 1/2 inches higher than the drivers' side Any thoughts? Any one else notice this issue?

Get your dealer to adjust the torsion bar on the side that is lower. It's a pretty straight forward and quick thing for them to do...will prob need an alignment afterwards as well, so get them to do that while you are there.

hth :B:

this is typical. if you look underneath the AV on the driver's side you will see something that closely resemble's a coffin. that is the fuel tank of course. then add 31 gallons of gas in that thing. there is your reason for the lean.

lol, coffin.... :)

I never noticed it doing that when empty vs. full on mine but it makes sense. So, yeah....fill-er up first and see if that helps, if not then see dealer.

i think if this is done the truck will look good with a full tank of gas. or, whatever you happen to have in the tank when adjustment is done. then when running 3/4, 1/2, and 1/4 tank it will still change the stance. ultimately the best fix would be a tank in the rear. not feasible when you think of how much fuel needs to be stored.

Or you could make a really fat dude sit on the other side when you are full ;) ;D :2:

if you put me ;D in the back to counterbalance the weight of the tank.... won't I roll from side to side ;D ;)

Welcome to the club dementlr. You'll find a ton of great info here and some really helpful folks., If you haven't got your flu shot then you'll need to watch out for that MOD bug. Once infected you can't get rid of it.

I wouldn't think that 180 lbs or so (30 gal fuel) would make a 1/2 inch difference but hey- I've been wrong before, just ask my SU. Going on theassumption that ~200lbs makes a 1/2" diffewrence can I lower my truck 2" by adding 1/2 ton? Maybe I shoudl have done that 2500 MOD ;D

this has been talked about before. you can use the search feature to track it down. i would not worry about it. i noticed it on my '02 AV. guess the fact that i was all over that truck it became apparent to me at some point. then i noticed a thread was started on the subject. after awhile i just let it go. i did notice that the lean was more evident with more fuel.
just think about the aforementioned "180lbs or so" sitting on the hood of the truck. whenever you would jump on the hood of a vehicle it would naturally compress the suspension. same it noticable when you get in and out of a car. why would it not be reasonable to think the samething would happen with an extreme amount of fuel being stored to one side of the vehicle. the same as if you were entering and exiting your vehicle from the driver's side. vehicle goes down, then it goes up. i think we are the only people noticing this however. we are the owners so we pay more attention.
by all means, go down to the dealer and have them check it out. you payed all that money for the 3/ 36 deal. use it. by all means, let us know what they tell you.

Thanks for all of the feedback. I will consult with the dealer after the Holidays, and will also compare measurements with a full tank versus nearly empty.

i am interested in the results of the measurements as well.

Well, I allowed the fuel to go as low as I dare, took the measurements on both the front and rear driver's side. The truck is still 1/2" lower on the driver's side. Filled the tank to max and measured again. Same results, so full or empty the truck still leans to the driver's side. I will check with the dealer next.

Please look to be sure the ground is level and the tires are inflated the same. I am sure you already did this but sometimes the obvious gets overlooked.

My '04 Z71 WBH had the same problem-- exactly. I took it to my dealership and the mechanic told me it happens all the time in that the torsion bars are not adjusted "exactly" from the factory because the assembler doesn't key the adjustment plates exactly the same. It was an easy fix for him to level my driver's side up with the passenger side. Then, I had him add an inch to that to level the truck up. We then realigned the front end and I drove the truck on a 500+ mile trip. No problems and everything is now leveled out. BTW, the truck pulled to the left slightly before the adjustment, now, it is straight down the highway. Hope this helps,

DrD
