Avalanche CONS(Annoyances)

That little bit of a blind spot caused by the sail panel when looking over your right shoulder.

Well I knew it was gonna be bad when I bought it, but for me the thing I like least is the gas miledge! I know, with its size and weight it should be expected,...

I'll have to agree with this! I know a 4-cylinder hybrid engine wouldn't cut it but fillups are costly! Of course driving it is so much fun I'll gladly live with the pain! ;D

The thing I hate most about My AV is all the rattles, especially the door panel. Seems to be getting worse.

Parking it and loading grocries over that big tailgate!

For me, it would have to be the window switches on the 03 AV.?:8:
I agree totally with this. Why change them? If ain't broke........! The rocker switches they've used for years were perfectly fine thank you. About the only other thing that bugs me is how tall it is. Why does a 2wd have to sit up so high? I mean it's higher than my pickup was to get in and out! Oh, and the "Passenger Side Airbag On/Off" readout in the bottom of the ISRV mirror. Don't need anything interferring with what little we can see in the mirror as it is.

For me it is the layout of the instrument cluster and dashboard. Remember GM called this the UUT- Ultimate Utility Truck. I thought the dashboard could have been more aggressive or little more mechanical.

Besides that, I love this darn truck!
;D

The only thing that realy kinda bother me is the bumpers. I mean I like the look but the front really lacks any structual strength what so ever. Even a minor bump and you're screwed.. you lose a fog light assembly or crack the plastic. I wish it had the option of the metal bumpers like on the WBH but with the BH. Or even some combination of metal and plastic to be more structually sound up front.

For me its the computer controlled HVAC . The system is probably the worst I have ever owned. I love the truck but hate the heat!

The fact that it is made by GM. This is the first and last GM vehicle I'll own. Poor customer service and after sale treatment.

Great concept, poor parents.

This is a tough one to answer. There are a few minor inconveniences that don't add up to anything major. So I don't want to sound petty in my criticism, but here's my list.

Backing up at night is tough with the tint and the dashboard reflection.

Remote tailgate lock would be nice.

Localized light switch for bed/side compartments.

Dragging stuff out of the bed along the rubber mat.

Stock stereo.

Hardness of bench seat arm rest.

No steering wheel controls.

Of course, most of this stuff can be addressed through mods and/or buying a 2003 Av.

All in all, I've never been more happy with a vehicle!

I'd say that you are most likely in the minority here. But that doesn't help you with your problems...... :6:

I'd have to say GM's build quality and lack of attention to detail, are my biggest complaints. A lot of little things break and/or are poorly designed. My complaints echo those in this thread.

An AV costs around $50,000 CDN (nicely equiped but not loaded) and for that kind of money I would expect more than what GM is giving us.

For me, it's the fact that it will only go in my garage after pulling in my drivers side mirror. I have two single bay doors instead of one large one. Can be a real pain when it's pooring rain...That, and the fact that you can't adjust the mirror out any and still pull it in (bad design). Still, it's the best vehicle I have owned in terms of no rattles at all so far 13K miles...

David

I've had a couple of rattles, but they were fixable. For example, I had an XM radio installed and the reciever went under the rear seat. For at least a month, I listened to a small rattle get worse and worse. When I finally got off of my lazy butt to investigate, I found the installers neglected to lock the jack in place when they put it back in. DOH! :p

I particularly agree about the windshield wipers not locking in a raised position.

As for things not sliding on the bed mat, I see that as a plus and not a minus. If you've ever had items damaged by sliding, or even damaged the bed with a heavy item sliding, you'll know what I mean.

All in all, I love this vehicle!

I believe the 2003 Avalanche has this as a power feature, so they come in automatically. :)

You could always just drive in and let them bend on their own. ;)

David I don't know if you knew this or not but on the 2003's they have auto mirrors. ?You just hit a button and they both fold in. ?They didn't have that feature on the 2002's. ?there may be a after market mod for it. ?It is just a idea.

The things I don't like about my Avalanche I can fix. I don't like the soft top. I'm going to change it to a hard top once I get the money. I want a 6 disk cd changer. That I can change. these things really don't bug me. Over all I love my avalanche and I'm planing on keeping it from many years.

The door chime when the key is in the ignition is totally out of the ball park in the loud category, and the hi-beam indicator is like having a flashlight shining in my eyes while driving.

Other than these items, there ain't a single thing wrong with my '03. :B:

When I had my 02 I did not like the fact that a $36k vehicle came with "paper" stock speakers! I went through 3 speakers! Windshield blades not locking in a up position. Could not fit a "LARGE" drink in the cupholder without taking the drink and cupholder with it.

On my 03 I have no complaints....everything is upgraded and to my satisfaction (y)

Sounds like he has a bad dealership. Nothing in the post was wrong with the AV, just bad Customer Service and Treatment. Find another dealer.
