avalanche extended warranty

Well actually I did have a extended warranty for 2 years, problem was the AV did not break so I wasted my money. Only problem I ever had was the transfer case at 130,000 miles. It cost 1900 bucks to fix but the 2 years of warranty was 2,200 bucks. So put your money in the bank.

I would only consider buying an extended warranty on a used vehicle.. If you are buying new then on most cars and trucks you get a:

3 year/36,000 miles bumper to bumper
5 year/100,000 powertrain
3 year corrosion plus 6 year/100,000 mile rust through
24/36 months on emission system parts with some components as much as 80,000 miles.

So paying a couple of grand more for something already under warranty is not worth it to me... If your worried about it when the warranty is up, most of the warranty companies already have your number and when your existing warranty is almost up they will be sending you proposals to further extend it...

I would agree, BUT much better pricing is available that makes it a no-brainer...for example, I got 60 months w 0 deductible for a little over 1k - from GM. I'm covered by the GMPP up to 84,000 miles or August 2018, which ever comes first. I don't think that is a bad investment on a 50k vehicle. These things are pretty loaded with complexity these days, especially the higher end models. Just a tranny could set you back many thousands of $$$. For a grand, I don't have to worry about anything truck related for another 4+ years. There are several GM dealers out there wiling to discount the GMPP online...

To each his own, but I think it is a decent idea to protect yourself from unpleasant surprises...

naylor99 hit the nail on the head. After your original warranty runs out and if you are not mechanically inclined then an extended warranty can be a good idea. What you want to watch out for is this, buying an extended warranty from GM is better because they will be around when you need them. Buying from a aftermarket company can be a problem because they can lure you with cheaper upfront pricing and deductibles but they can also close up business and then your contract is no good. They do that quite a bit and then move to another state and open for business with another name and start the scam all over again. So buyer beware of all the pitfalls out there and do your research.  (y)
