I really don't like to read OK, this website not included. But I do have a favorite author, Clive Cussler. Cussler writes books that combine science, adventure, history, fact and fiction together. His most recent book Valhalla Rising has been out for about 6 months and I've had it about that long but I'm just now getting around to reading it. Anyway... about midway through the book there's this scene where Pitt (the hero), his sidekick and two women have been threatened by this real bad guy at an out-of-the-way restaurant. As they're on their way back into the city the bad guy's goons are chasing Pitt's '38 Packard in a Lincoln Navigator. Expecting something had been up Pitt had called someone on the phone before they left the restaurant. At the climax of the chase and as the bad guys are about to overtake the Packard, 2 Avalanches with roof mounted machine guns pop out of the woods ahead. Trying to evade the Av's, the Navigator ends up loosing control and doing a roll over (now that'll need to be tested) and the good guys get away.

Well, he tells it much better than I do. But I was just thought that was pretty cool, would like to have seen it on a screen though. I haven't finished the book just yet so I don't know if there are any other references in there yet. Just thought I'd share.

By the way, who sells roof mounted machine guns for an Av? Gotta get a couple of those, you know...homeland security!

Crap man get on it I wanna know if there are more AV's in the book.....suspense is killing me!!!

LOL

Cool that someone has put them in a book.....wont be too long and the AV will be in the movies!!

I love CLIVE.

He has a great collection of cars!

Is the book in paper back yet?

Yo, Clive Cussler is the greatest!!!

Quote: Valhalla Rising, Clive Cussler pg 367 2001

"The instant Pitt had the car on an even track heading up a straight section of the road, he peered into the mirror in time to see the two big Chevy Avalanches charge out of the woods like ghosts directly in front of the speeding Navigator. The appearance of the Avalanches, with machine guns mounted and manned in their cargo box, was as totally unexpected as it was abrupt.

The driver of the Navigator was caught completely off guard and whipped the wheel to one side, sending the big SUV into an uncontrollable skid across the road and onto the grassy shoulder, where it lost traction and rolled over three times, disappearing into the thick underbrush in a cloud of dust and a spray of leaves and branches.

Armed men in combat camouflage night gear burst from the Avalanches and quickly surrounded the upside-down Navigator."

Manuscript completed before the first AV had been sold!

Sigh, my kind of Avalanche, machine guns.... ;D

Can I upgrade the Machine guns to Chain Guns ;D

You can't have to much fire power these days...

Clive is a great author and that book was great. I've noticed he tends to use some cool vehicles in his books. I had forgotten about the Avalanche part though, I'm gonna have to read that one again.

Dirk Pitt rocks!

The machine gun option is not as far fetched as one might thing - not that any of us can easily implement the mod . . . check this out - posted by G-man some months back http://www.ibistek.com/viper_gallery.html

Yep, I've enjoyed a couple of Clive Cussler books as well - now I need to get this one featuring the Av.

I have been trying to tell you guys, you thought I was joking - how do you think I win drag races... >:D
