The October 2002 issue of Motor Trend has once again provided us a "One-Year Update" on our beloved truck. Their loaned truck is a Victory Red Z66.

"The Avalanche is an SUV that hauls like a truck and drives like a large luxury sedan. It's an instant winner in my book." - Scott Mead

I am trying to find the whole few paragraphs online but can't locate it. It basically talks about a hauling experience, like most of us have had, where the guy at the store can't believe all of the "stuff" will fit in the bed. Lo and behold, a drop of the midgate and it surely fits.

Jamie,

I saw the same thing. That's a good read. You'll probably have to wait until the current issue goes off storeroom shelves until you can find an internet article. They're going to try and make sure everyone buys their magazine issue first ;).

Thanks for the info Jamie, I was just looking at the article in the Motor Trend last night at the newsstand....seems pretty interesting....another satisfied customer... :B:

I really didn't want to type the whole thing out and have to proof-read my spellings etc as I hate typos in my posts (I always go back and modify them probably a little anal of me). So I figured, heck, why not just scan the article and post the pic. So there you go, 1 article coming up!

The longevity of the Avalanche is something that is really difficult to convey to my father. Motor Trends and thousands of CAFCNA members do not sway his opinion that within three years, Chevrolet will discontinue the Avalanche because it is either a fad or that the plastic and other components will begin to cost them in warranty work.

I realize that this is not very likely - even though I have spent over $1,500 in warranty work in my first year; I feel I am quite unlucky compared to most - but I cannot express this to my father without getting in an argument. He is one of those 'old school' people who likes the basics. He suggested I sell my Avalanche and purchase a Buick. No offense to the older members, but I feel that most Buicks portray an older mentality. I do not want people to see a Buick and assume that the driver is 65, not 24. Fortunately, my mother is a little more sensible. She likes the Avalanche, and suggested that if I do sell it, to purchase a Silverado instead. (I hope to pull a fifth wheel eventually.)

I do not like arguing with my father, but I wish there was a way to have a final say in the matter, where he could not argue. Unfortunately, the only way I see that this is possible is to hold onto the Avalanche and see what he says ten years down the road.

Ah well.

That is likely the only way - us old ***** are pretty set in our ways and it takes time to change our minds - just live with it - you will get there someday ;D

Scott Mead - It is a TRUCK. It may double as an SUV, but it is still a TRUCK. This has been discussed on other threads.

Boar-Ral - Rather than arguing with your father about something that can't be proven for ten years, compare the Buick to the Avalanche in terms of the use requirements. I am sure that the Avalanche will prevail. Also, I don't see anywhere that it is documented that Buick quality is better than Chevy Quality. :B:

BTW- What does he drive?

Well,

It was nice to read this article about how great the Avalanche is. However, my problem with new cars is never the cars, but the people you buy them from. It is the highest priority for me to have them serviced properly after spending almost $40,000.

I bought my Avalanche two months ago, and she is still in the shop out here in Oakland California (Val Strough). The Avy had a few glitches that needed to be fixed. A small rip on the passenger seat, Small scratches on the rear quarter panel, and the detail to remove all stickers.

Well it's been in the shop three times and they cannot get it right. When I call the service manager, no answer. When I call the Sales Manager, no answer.

It's the service that makes you come back... Guess they haven't got that together yet.

I hope so.

Bigg Lee,

Wow, that really sucks. I have found that writing a "disappointed" letter to multiple big whigs in a company/dealership gets faster results than anything done over the phone. Not email, but typed letters. Send it express so that they have to sign for it, and note a CC that you'll be sending a copy to GM Headquarters; John Smith Jr or G. Richard Wagoner, Jr @ 300 Renaissance Center Detroit, MI 48265. (Chairmain, and CEO). Granted these guys might be too far up the ladder, but screw 'em that's why they get the big bucks. Hope all works out well for you.

BTW, I heard a comedian say, "The difference between a good friend and a best friend; a good friend will help you move, a best friend...will help you move a dead body!"

Pretty good idea Gtimm. Another funny "friends" quote is "a good friend will bail you out of jail, your best friend will be sitting next to you saying 'Dude, that was awesome!' "
