Avalanche Reviewed In Consumer Reports!!

Tractman...I believe you're right....I have never claimed loyalty or an exclusive relationship to GM.....but since buying my Av...I have really liked the product and the future of GM...I have had the opportunity to follow the news regarding the company...and they are really turning things around.....I do believe that Chevy leads the truck segment....with Ford pulling a close second with the F series. :B: :B:

In the latest (April 2003) edition of Consumer Reports, the Chevy Avalanche is rated as "Top Pick" for Pickup Truck. Also, under the Vehicle Profile section, the Avalanche is given their "recommended check mark"

This is their annual auto issue, which rates and compares virtually all vehicles.

Maybe this will finally put the AV haters out to pasture!

It IS the only truck to own! (sorry silverados)

my .02

Having formerly subscribed to Consumer Reports for many years and experienced their Honda/Toyota love affair bias :D:, this is absolutely monumental news!

Very rarely does a vehicle from the Big 3, especially GM, get the recommended check mark. I may have to run out and buy this issue for my collection.

Long Live the AV!! :B:

Well you know this just goes to show that the makeup of the American pickup owner is/has changed. ?Lets face it 10 years ago the average pickup owner needed a pickup for use as a TRUCK (heavy hauling & towing). ?Now days the average pickup owner wants an SUV that has the ability to carry the occasional load or two, as evident by the fact the AV only comes in 1500 & 2500 versions. ?Put another way the American definition of the "pickup" has changed.

No need to apologize to Silverado owners most of them still need a serious TRUCK, 3500 w/duramax, "PICKUP" in the pure sense of the word.

AVALANCHE: SUV, TRUCK, TOY, AND OTHER.

THAT SUMS IT UP FOR ME!
In the New York Times.com automobile section they reffered to the AV in this manner:
"If the Swiss Army Knife company made a vehicle, it would have been the Avalanche".

Now, I need a new mod to install a swiss army knife and the tooth pick holder somewhere on my dash board.

Keep on truckin!!!
;D

"Well Said" "Well Said" Hum a swiss army knife version of the AV.

wow! I happen to like Consumer Report, but it is rare that they give a high rating to GM products. Honestly, before getting the Av, I have not always rated them very highly either! It's nice to see that we're not crazy!!!

Wow this is huge! Consumer Reports has had such a love affair with Toyota so to have brushed aside the esteemed Tundra is a MAJOR accomplishment. It's not just the recommendation, it's the user satisfaction.

This only means one thing. More Avalanche owners! ;D

I think you mean the Consumer Reports cars, sport utility special for 2003. don't want anyone to buy the car version. interesting if you read the ratings. after reading the post alerting us to this mag, I got one for lunch. Nice reading. Note pictures on page 18-19 of the AV taking to mud. needs some mods though. :B:

It's about time people other than Avalanche owners realize that THIS TRUCK IS GREAT!!!

Congrats, Comrades! ?We ARE being noticed & recognized finally
;D ;D ;D

Crabby, I am confused by your post, (or maybe you are confused by mine).

I am a subscriber, yesterday received the April 2003 issue, the Annual Auto Issue. This is the issue that has all the car ratings, best used cars, reliability records etc. This is what I used to start this topic.

Pages 18-19 of this edition are on an article about dealer "Tricks of the Trade", no Av pix.

Here is a copy of the e-mail I sent to our primary GM contacts. Names deleted to protect their identities:

Wanted to send you a note offering you my congratulations on the Consumer Reports 2003 Buying Guide "Top Pick" rating and "Recommended" rating for the Chevrolet Avalanche.

Consumer Reports has noted what the 6,200 members of the Chevy Avalanche Fan Club of North America already knew - that the Chevrolet Avalanche is the most versatile and best built full size truck you can buy today. Thank you for all your hard work and vision. I'm looking forward to our continued relationship and finding new ways to reach out to current and potential Avalanche owners.

I was very happy to read/see that review. The Av most definitely deserves this honor. It's about time!

One of their major complaints was in the way the Av handles. Did anybody see that pic where the right front and rear tires were off the ground in that handling maneuver

Nice to see that CR may becoming a bit more unbiased to US automakers.

IMO I think GM is at the top of the game for now. Sharing building technology with Toyota (for quality) and listening to potential buyers is paying off. I bought my Av because it's so versatile ..The perfect vehicle for my needs. Thanks GM (y)

To be fair, the Tundra is a heckuva truck. I've got a 2000 Tundra 4wd, and I have not been unhappy with it.

Nonetheless, I bought my Avalanche a week ago, and I have to say this vehicle is just deeply neato. I like the Avalanche a lot.

BTW, the Tundra is for sale. ;)

I quit buying CR years ago because of their CR biased reporting leaning toward the Honda and Toyota. I might just have to go back now.

my av does what i want, and need out of a vehicle

like my cafcna name, got change...... this truck, of mine, of ours, here at the club, is... comfortable, will tow what i want to tow, ..brought home the christmas tree, the stuff from home depot, looks good at cruise night,... this darn truck just fits the bill, and if consumer reports, and all of us agree, so much the better!!!!

we all ride in more than a pickup, and not a bit less than a s.u.v, so as i have said before

drive on av driver,

and feelgoodabouuudiittt...got change .02c worth

I have a 2000 Tundra as well and have an emotional attachment which prevents me from letting it go, it is now a company truck. I put 96K on it with no problems whatsoever.

:mad:I've found that Consumer Reports will usually Bad-Mouth vehicles made by GM, Ford, or Chrysler. I agree with the previous posts that they praise the foreign stuff.

:0:Maybe they consider the AV foreign since it's made in Mexico!
