gm reported avalanche sales increased 30% ;D year-over-year during may. that's a huge increase! most of its other models saw a decrease in sales (even the EXT). what do you guys think caused the sales surge???

I belive that people are getting used to the unique appearance and are beginning to realize the practibility.

Besides there are 8000+ cracknotch salespeople on the road driving them. ;D

I just bought one because with GMS and all of the rebates, I got $14,800 off sticker. And they paid off my lease on my 2002 Av that was expiring Jan 1, 2004. Without all of that, I would have waited, but for 34% off sticker, I had no choice...

It should be obvious.....WBH!! ;D OK, the $4 grand probably helped. It would be interesting to see a breakdown of "Clothed" and "Nekkid".

Txyank you just gave me a sweet idea for a vanity plate....how about "NEKKID" on the WBH.....

That would be quite ingenious i think....

Hey Bill272...

Where did you find a dealer to knock $14,000 off the MSRP? A zip code, so I can use GMBuy Power, and a contact would be nice. I will travel if I can save enough.

I'm in Delaware and considering purchasing a Z71 WBH, but none of the dealers in DE, even with the "friend and family" discount will knock more that $9000 off Avalanches with MSRPs in the range of $40,000 to $42,000.

I found a dealer in Massachusetts who will knock $10,000 off, but they don't have what we want.

I think it is due to the WBH and the $4000 rebates.
I've seen a lot more WBH's on the road lately, I think people are slowly warming up to them or realizing that AV's are now availible w/o cladding. I just haven't seen GM really push it much, yeah in a magazine ad here and there or in a little add-in to you GM card statement. But nothing like the "Change for a buck" campaign.
Just MHO

With GMS, there's no haggling over the price and all the rebates came from GM. ?The only thing the dealer had control of was a mileage discount of $550 for 1600 miles. ?Some rebates weren't available to everyone, but I could use them, like $1000 for residents of MI, $1000 for having an Olds when they announced their closing, $250 bonus GMS rebate, and some GM card earnings.

I sure do believe it!!!

On my way to work today.

Blue Z71 on one side of me.

Red 2500 on the other.

Blue EXT in front of me.

And me in my Yellow Z71

All just outside Indianapolis this morning.
There sure are alot more around now

$1000 for residents of Mi.? Is this deal still in effect? Waiting on the papers to pick up a WBH Z66, leather, sunroof,, Buckets in sunburdt Orange And an extra grand would be nice. Are ther nay other discounts I don't know about?

When I was at my dealer last week gettin' my 7500Mi. They had 6 Av's and every one was cladded! Come to find out they sell a lot more of them! 'Must be demographics?
I've talked to some folks at work that have some interest and it's a bit balanced between the nakked and the cladded..
Three of us have Av's - all cladded so far.

The WBH is not a true AV. That is only my opinion as well as others with the cladded version. GM tries to save cash and make it up elsewhere. The cladded version out sells the wbh hands down.

Sounds like someone with an inferiority complex - perhaps someone who has one of a dying breed in his garage?

I have the first year version, 2002 with cladding. It is not a dying breed. I have no inferiority complex except towards those who dont think the plastic is work having.

WOW, that sure was an unwelcome insult! Let's look at the facts:
The TRUE distinguishing feature of an AV that sets it apart from all else is the Midgate. The ability to go from a large SUV with a medium bed to a medium SUV with a large bed is why most of us bought it. If we bought it for the plastic we could have purchased an Aztek, Vehicross, or any one of the tupperware equipped vehicles. Most of us wanted the utility available by the configurable bed/backseat.
What makes a TRUE Avalanche? I say the midgate! My WBH has a midgate. The cladding is merely another feature available. Is a Firebird without a spoiler not a Firebird? How about a Viper without a ragtop? They only came in the roadster in the beginning, yet the Viper coupe was the baddest snake of them all!
All things change, and so does the Av! I do not prefer the look of the cladding, and I would not have bought one had the WBH not been offered. Yet I do not criticize others, just have a different eye. I would have bought the EXT, but thanks to the WBH, I got off cheap! According to several dealers I have talked to, the WBH is selling in far greater numbers nationally! I guess you'll have to get used to it.
BTW-Is the Corvette still a Vette without pop-up headlights? I guess os since it started with fixed lights than switched to pop-ups, and is now switching back. See, everything changes!

Thanks for confirming what I said.

I believe it is the WBH Avalanches. It was holding some people back from buying them with all the cladding. Some like it some don't. I get alot of complements almost every day.

It may just be that the general health of the economy is better now. I see very few WBH in my area. Probably like 5:1 ratios of clad vs no-clad.

Not to start a fight (like your original post), but didn't they change the cladding after the 2002 year because of all the problems people were having. Your are right, however, in that they are not the same. The WBH is like a step up between the cladded, and the EXT. >:D

GM has been reaching out to its customers in the last few years, and the WBH is proof of that. The market overwhelmmingly said they liked the AV in concept, but not necessarily the plastic parts - they would buy the truck if it shed its cladding. Voila! The WBH was born, and now there are two healthy markets for our beloved vehicle.

Pay no attention to the people who are incapable of holding two ideas in their heads simultaneously.

I'm new to the club but thought I would chime in on this subject. I have a yellow wbc and everyone to a person who has commented on my truck said they like it wbc. In fact I think several of them are now considering an Avalanche. I was the same way. I thought the Avalanche was a great idea but did not care the looks either. I went to the nearby Chevy dealer to look at Tahoes and saw my yellow Avalanche wbc and that was it. I bought it that day. They also took over $11k off the price. It went from $42k to $31k at 3.9%. I was thrilled. That was last July on a 2003. I also want to thank AV2500 for telling me about the club.
