I don't recall seeing this thread before but anyway...

After looking at the silverado ss website, it makes one wonder how long it will be before we can expect an AV SS. I figure if they can make a Tahoe SS, why not an AV SS? :0:

If they were to offer one in crimson red I might have to trade in the Rescue....

(Of course that's right after I trade it in for the 2500 AV with the duramax... ;D ;D)

We can only hope...

I haven't read anything about it. But it didn't take them very long to do up a super Trailblazer. Hopefully it will be in the near future.

It would be nice to have some REAL power in the AVY from the start. I am waiting for a longer bed to be offered as an option.
If it came with a longer bed, would there really be a need for a midgate? Seems like the General has those bases covered with the extended cab and crew cab pick-ups.

More power is always good, though! >:D

You would be better off to just buy an extended cab long be Silverado with a D/A - your not going to see a longer bed than 8'1" which is the midgate down size - it is all that will fit on the Sub frame.

What I would love to see is a SPLIT midgate! That way us car seat haulers can still have half of an 8' bed for fishing stuff etc...

Why not mod one to make it an SS? ;) I have an idea, add a sportwing and a billet grille, a billet fuel door, a flowmaster and a FIPK intake - top it off with Stripeman lettering and amber drls - (y) Hey I have an Avalanche SS. >:D

I'm not saying somebody couldn't order all the parts to mod an AV SS.

All you have to do is change the engine to a 6.0L, lower the suspension, add 20" wheels, change the front torsion bars and rear springs, add brake ducts, change the sway bars, and add SS emblems. No problem.

I think it would be a whole lot cheaper to order one from GM than try to mod an AV. Besides you can't tell me they wouldn't sell, look at the Denali or the C-3.

I think you nailed it rescue...this would probably be the approach that Gm would take if we were to see an SS Avalanche trim.....bigger engine, lowered stance and more aggressive styling cues... :B:

You would also have to change the drivetrain to an all- wheel drive set-up. I would leave that step out as I prefer 4 wheel drive.

I'm thinking there is some company outthere right now fabricating some carbon fiber hood for the Av with the ram air....imagine that...nice light weight hood....cooler temps... :B:

Ram air doesn't provide much benefit until speeds hit 100mph or so. A source of cool air is beneficial. I think that WVBubba added the ram air add-on to a Volant air box. The verdict was save your money ($140).

BTW, I'm not sure if there is some confusion, but the Silverado SS doesn't have a ram air hood.

maybe we're thinkin of the ram srt-10......doesn't the silverado have the eqiv....but in the front bumper.... :B:

;DChevy's answer to the Ford Lightning...

The Avalanche Thunder Z06,

The Av with AWD and the LS6,
lower it 3", Unique 19" magnesium lightweight wheels, 275/45x19 ZR Comp T/A's, all polyeurathane suspension bushings, heavier front torsion bars, variable rate rear coil springs, fully independant rear suspension, heavier front and rear sway bars, cross drilled brake rotors, and 4 piston wilwood calipers.

Available only with body hardware in a select number of unique high metallic colors including metallic black with unique graphics package and custom designed "L-88" style hood.

Available only for sale to CAFCNA members to insure that only a real Av lover owns one.

Hey....

I can dream...

Stop....I'm starting to drool...the thought of that idea would be to entertaining....someone call Lutz and relay that idea... :B:

Yes, yes an AV SS!!!!!!! ;D ;D

It would have to have cladding but maybe a mono color to match the paint. How about a 500HP SC engine, nice fat tires and a lowered chassis with improved handling and serious brakes. Some trick seats would be nice too. Oh and no speed limiter too.

Come to think of it G and Butch already have their own versions of an AV SS!

I would like to see an SS version of the AV, it would really add some nice power and other good features. However the idea of combining a AV with a corvette or at least the engine, is a little too much. I would like to see more power and other performance upgrades to the AV, but putting light weight wheels on it and lowering it 3" isn't the way to go. You ever want to keep it at the original height or add a little to it. My preferences for an SS would be a supercharged vortec6000, upgraded fuel injection system, volant cold air induction, 20" alloy wheels, standard height or 2" lift, choice of exhaust system, bigger brakes prhaps from the Z06, heavier suspension, fulltime 4WD, Brushguard and rear guards. I would say that would make a preety nice SS AV. I haven't given much thought to the interior upgrades, but I'm sure that the seats would all had the SSAV logo on them with a special trim and a couple colors to choose from. Probable a special sound system and other amenities. Personally I;d like to see an SS AV that was a similar interior patern as the North Face Edition, I have it and I am fairly satisfied with it.

On another note I read some people in this section have been saying that they'd like to see certain upgrades to the midgate, one thing I wouldn't mind is a power rear window that goes dowm into the midgate and than the midgate folds down on its own and locks itself down. I think that a pwr rear window and midgate would be really nice.

Rescue,

See what you started. You'll have carrarod trading in his Av and the Vette for the new vett like AV SS.

The SS does have ram air build into the bumper, with it up front in the bumper it would surely have an impact way before 100 MPH

Why? Air pressure at the bumper is no greater than that of an inlet placed on the hood. The main benefit would be isolation from engine heat, and at speed this difference would be negligable at best. The "ram" concept has to do with positive pressurization of the air box. Positive pressure of any consequence does not happen until speeds start approaching triple digits.

And don't call me Shirley! >:D

All this talk about changing hoods, etc. reminded me that it appears to me that the new Silverado and Avalanche front ends are similar, but not the same. We all know about the high vs. low headlight positions, but I think there's more to it than that. Take a good look at the front corners of either front fender, looking straight on from the side. The Av's fender line makes a nice, smooth curve down toward the bumper. On the new Silverado, the hood comes forward a bit more then makes a rather abrupt turn downward to the bumper - a more upright front end in comparison to the Av. I don't have side-by-side pictures for comparison, but my dealer's lot observations make it seem this way to me. The WBH Av appears to share the same front clip as the Silverado, leading to two similar but different sets of parts depending on Av model. Anybody else notice this difference? Unfortunately for aftermarket parts people that means two different hoods, for example, should someone build one with scoops in it.

I would expect the lines of the new silverado SS to be more pronounced....after all it's looks have to coincide with it's beefy attitude....I like the front end...looks sharp... :B:
