These decals look awesome! The "Z71" looks more like the traditional Chevy/GMC Z71 emblem. I went with gold metallic mountains, bright red "Z" and white "71." Here are install pics. Temp was about 18? in the garage with the door down. Hair dryer REALLY helped during both old decal removal AND new decal installation.

As those of you who have ordered your Avalanche Z71/Mountain decals apply them, post you pics in this thread!

Click my sig for pictures.

Jamie,

Your stickers look really nice on Black.

I did not like the RED stickers on my truck...

I ordered the Red Z, white 71 and 02 cladding gray for mountains. Should look interesting with much of the cladding painted and the black showing through on Avalanche name.
Likely going to take a while to ship to Canada, but that's OK it has not been even close to 0 or 32 (C or F) in more than a week.
Still have the bezel, billet fill cap and dash kit to put on

I just purchased a bunch of these Z71 emblems as well, I think they look great on the current Suburban and Tahoe, so of course they would look good on the Av.

I agree that I don't like the red stickers on the Pewter, good choice! Did you take the factory stickers off? Anymore pics of your Av?

Any tips for a novice before I start on my Z71 Mountain logo install :p

First, I used painter's masking tape to make a line parallel to the bottom edge of the current Z71 decals. This way, I figured I'd be guaranteed level. Next, I used a hair dryer. Use it on high heat about 2" from the existing Z71/Z66 decals to help soften/loosen them. I just used my fingernail to start a corner. When peeling, never pull too large a piece or it will tear and you have to start a new corner again. Instead, as you get 1/2" pulled, re-grab it nearest the truck. This way, you can remove the whole decal in one piece without it continuously tearing. Also recommend using the hair dryer once the new decals are installed. I heated them up WHILE smoothing them with the rubber paddle/spatula used for installing decals. This caused them to smooth better and they seemed to adhere better as well. Less bubbles anyway.

Thanks Jamie, install went pretty well. Driver's side, which was the first side picked up a few bubbles in the 7 and in the 1, passengers side only had 2 bubbles on the 7.
All, in all not to bad I like the new look ;D

As soon as I get a digital camera I'll post a few pics. My mountain logos have white mountains with the gray Z71.

Also meant to share this pic. Roland (avZ66) gave me a brake light decal when I met him after Christmas while we were visiting my in-laws over the Christmas holiday.

brake light decal

I may need to buy another as this one I botched a little. Still looks good though ;)

They are a bear to get on straight. I screwed mine up so bad I peeled it off immediately.

Yeah, that's why I may have to remove mine :8: It's not terrible, but on the corners, I have a couple layers of decal where it didn't cover right!

Jamie

WHERE did you get the brake light decal? WHERE can I get one? I think that looks awesome! I really like that! Please. Talk to me! LOL!

Jamie - that Z-71 decal looks awesome! What did you use to clean up the old decal outline before applying the new one?

I'll be ordering mine now that I've seen it on someone's Av. I may get the 2-color decal with the gold mountain and Z-71 all in red. I noticed on the website that there is an option of frosted and another option for a fade between two colors, like blue to purple. But there are no examples of these options.

Also, was there any response to the idea if having the words "Off Road" instead of "Avalanche" inside the Z?

Thanks! Once removed, I used Dawn to remove ALL residue. That didn't work too well and I didn't want to grind swirl marks into the finish. I instead used bag/tar remover. This worked much better. Then I used Dawn to remove that stuff.

I'd just email Rich directly. He's always been very responsive to my inquiries.

Jamie, I love the look of that three color Z-71decal on the black. I'm trying to decide what colors I want to put on my Indigo Blue (I think I want red for the mountian...)

A question for anybody: I think I know the answer, but I have to ask. I'm assuming that the three color is made with three colors of vinyl, and not printed. However, looking at your decal, I'm wondering about the gaps between the letters and the mountains, and the "Avalanche" in the base of the Z. From the picture, I can't decide if there is a printed black border around the letters, and the Avalanche is printed in black, or if there are gaps and cutouts in the vinyl at those points and the black painted fender is showing through. (I'm guessing it's the latter, but I'm kind of hoping it's the former.)

Any clarification is appreciated. ;D

The mountains and the Z71 are all parts of one decal. There are pieces of the decal that are by themselves (floating if you will), such as in my attached diagram. The letters in the "Avalanche" are cutout. In other words, if you have a blue truck, the letters Avalanche will be blue.

Ok, in that picture, the areas under question (letter borders and Avalanche text) appear to be white. I'm assuming that's becuase they are air pockets due to no vinyl being below the carrier sheet.

So, just to confirm, there is no black vinyl or printing on your specific decals. Anything that appears to be black in your pictures is actually the paint of your truck showing through.

This is how I was assuming it was, but you know what happens when you assume...

Yes SS, assumption is bad but in this case you are correct. My decal is gold mountains, red Z and white 71. Any, ANY trace of any black is the actual body color.

Here's another good example. This picture is right from the streamlinedesign.com website:
AVZ-03-LG.gif
Anything black on this image is truck body color and NOT part of the decal.

Does that help more?

Yep, got it! (y)

Thanks for the info. Now all I have to do is decide on colors...

Shapeshifter,

I have Indiglo Blue also. I ordered the three color with Silver Metallic Mountains, red Z and white 66. I have the gray fade tailgate letters from Stripeman from a while back and wanted to try to tie them together if possible.

Will post pics when installed.

Maverick, I have a black Z-71 and ordered the 3 color with cladding gray mountains, red Z and white 71. Also have the gray fade on sides and tailgate. Got confirmation of order today, but likely won't get to install them till March. Too cold and can't do a GOOD job of cleaning before installing.
The gray fades are sweet :D

Sparky,

You mentioned "cladding gray color". I don't see that as a color option.

Do you mean silver metallic?

I am glad to see lots of folks going with the red "Z" and white "71" as that looks more natural with the GM lineup of trucks. Not that we want to look stock, but it looks more natural.
