Axes/Hatchets?

I finally got a Cold Steel machette down in TN at the nationals, and I also carry a Gerber Hatchet that is super sharp, I barely touched it and cut my self.

Have an ax and knife both from Harbor Freight, the knife has a eight inch blade with saw tooth on shank plus a folding saw made from a chain saw.

welll, I have a small hatchet with a standard wooden handle laying on the floor in my back seat. Last week I went through a drinking and driving check station and got searched....the cop asked me if I was planning on chopping someone up   I politely told him I had been making a tree stand on my deer hunting property.  We then shared the seasons hunting stories for a few minutes! :p

that max axe kit is great comes in real handy, i have teh one made by hi lift its called the hi lift handle all, if you get lucky 4wheelparts puts them on sale sometimes for 30% off...

Thought I'd bring this back from the dust.
I too carry a Fiskars axe in my side box, along with a TrailBlazer saw. Last week I finally figured out what to do with my machete

You and I have a lot of the same thoughts on our Av's.  I have been thinking about putting a set of quick fists on that same side panel to mount a full size shovel and axe...   I love your site by the way, when the time comes for me to put my second tank in, i'll be coming to you  with questions, hope that's ok!

Funny that this thread showed back up now.  I was just out with a club member last weekend and they saw my setup and asked me about it.  I've got a folding shovel mounted semi-permanently in the little indentation right there behind where your machete handle is.  I leave it there full time.  And have needed and used it.

I also have a dual edged axe mounted right about the same place your machette is, with just velcro straps (although I put it on the drivers side).  However, the axe I normally don't carry unless I'm going somewhere I might need it (camping, off road, etc.) because it likes to get in the way of stuff on my bedslide.

I carry a standard "Walmart" machete for light duty, and a Polanski for everything else that might come my way.

Interesting that you carry a Pulaski in your truck. I thought those were only for fighting wildfires/brush fires.

Yes the Pulaski is designed for wildland firefighting but I was thinking it has an ax on one side, and flathead pick on the other side. It deffinately works for anything I have encountered without abusing the tool.

Fair enough. One thing I found out the hard way in the field, using a military surplus shovel it is a PITA to dig your truck out of a 4ft deep snow drift :E:, not fun.

Wow , this has been a while ago...

I added a shovel to which I serrated one edge for root cutting. The D handle shovel makes it a good forearm guard if wielded for defense. A snow shovel swaps out for winter travels. A diamond sharpener rides behind the machete handle to keep sharp stuff sharp :).
