CAFCNA Members,

I have been able to secure a Group Buy for us on B&G Suspension Lowering Springs. They will drop the back end of your Avalanche by 2.5'', making it level with the front. ?I installed them on my Av and didn't have to get new shocks or adjust the torsion bar, I just paid the cost of installing the springs.

If we have 10 orders by May 7th 2003 CAFCNA price is $169 (wholesale cost)+ shipping . ?If there are less than 10 orders, it will be $189 + shipping.

After May 7th, you can still get them for $189 + shipping

If you have any questions, feel free to email me at Babar's email or email me here on the forum. ?Email is better though ;)

Payment Methods:
Certified Check or Money Order to
Mark F. Arbar
4370 La Jolla Village Drive, Suite 990
San Diego, CA 92122-1233
-OR-
PayPal (account: marbar@voitco.com)

Info on B&G:

B+G's TUV and 9002 certification is due to every spring being cold wound with Wafios CNC coilers, the industries best, and their heating process. B+G heat tempers all springs at exactly 900 degrees celsius, nothing more, nothing less. This along with the shot peening and blocking process guarantees that our springs will never sag.

Hi Babar, was there any difference in handling? Did you need a wheel alignment after the lower springs were installed?

I did not need to get it realigned, thank goodness (and I have a Z71 4x4). I was surprised actually, I dropped it off to install and it was ready in 2 hours. No torsion adjust, no shocks to change, and no realignment.

As for the handling and ride, it is a sport suspension, so it is slightly stiffer in the back. The ride is still nice though. I have had plenty of people ride with me since this mod, and they told me it was still comfortable, even in the back. One thing that I am very happy with is the handling change. I can take corners faster (rear passengers don't like that ;)) and the truck is still hugging the road. Getting on and off the freeway and taking corners is easier and feels more solid and secure.

I paid $100 to install the springs at Off Road Warehouse. If you want to adjust the torsion bar, it will be another $100. Since the springs themselves drop the back 2.5'' it makes the back and front level (the back is 2.5'' higher when it is stock). I like the way it looks like that, so I left it. $100 install. I am attaching a pic for you to see how mine looks now (still no rims :C:). What do you think?

Will these springs still drop the back of a Z66?

The Z66's are supposed to have self leveling shocks, so I hear, though I'm not sure how they actually work.

Splatz, I just got off of the phone with my local chevy dealer and the Off Road Warehouse suspension specialist. ?SOME not all, Z66's have the self-leveling shocks. ?Double check in your maual or call Chevy with you VIN# and they will tell you if you have it. ?

If you do, have them, you can take it to the dealer and have it recalibrated so that when the springs are on, you will have the desired drop. ?It involves telling the computer that the 2.5'' drop is how the truck is supposed to be, so the dealer has to do that. ?Call your local dealer to get a price on that, as each dealer has their own pricing on this procedure.

Hope that helped.

By the way if you guys have friends who are not on the forum and have an Avalanche or Escalade/EXT, let them know that they can get in on the group buy too.

Has anyone looked into how this affects the allignment of the drive shaft. I ran this on by my mechanic at GM (who is a close friend and mods my AV with me all the time) and he mentioned that this mod will indeed mess with the way our AV's "hook up" and will put extra stress on the drive shaft. He did offer the fix for me which was cheap, but I forget what he called it. I will ask him next time I see him. It sounded like an easy fix though.

I went to a mechanic and mentioned this to him. He said that with such a 2.5 drop it would not affect the drive shaft. That it would only affect it if it was dropped drastically like 4 or more inches. He said that stress is put on if it is at a great angle.... Like if you dropped it and the drive shaft angled at 45 degrees or more... So babar keep me in on this deal. Hopefully we will be able to get the $169 price! (y)

Never heard of driveshaft problems with drops. Only when you jack them waaay up. I know we have a few Members with drop jobs. Any comments?

cwally's guy seems to make sense. I'm not a mechanic, but I can follow the logic. If it is dropped in a way that one and or the other is way lower then there would be excess stress on the drive shaft. If you take it too far I would think you could even snap it (or am I being drastic?). But the 2.5'' drop from these springs levels it out and doesn't change the angle of the drive shaft much. I would also think that the install guys would have mentioned that if it was a significant thing, since it would be more $ for them. But you know what, if you get the springs and are worried about it and it isn't a very expensive thing to do so it makes you feel more secure, I would say go for it.

Can you please get some more details from your GM Mechanic on this and post them ???

TIA

Hey everybody, I recently received an email question about the static height of the new vs. stock springs. ?I took it directly to B&G and here is the response that I received.

Hope it helps... BABAR
------------------------------------------------------------------

Since we design the springs with a progressive rate the spring length is normally very close to original equipment. ?Further since we design the spring to ride lower leaving less travel we automatically have to increase the spring rate to prevent rubbing and bottoming out of the suspension. ?In the case of the Chevy truck spring the rate increase was minimal, approximately 10% higher than original, at ride height.

As you know these springs are designed to lower the rear suspension approximately 2.5inches. ?If you want to lower the front, this can be accomplished by turning down the torsion bar.

The next time I am in to see him, I will get more detail. He was not overly concerned....just one of those guys who wants to do everything by the book. That is why he mentioned that. He did mention the "fix" , but like I said, I forgot what it was called. I will look into this for us.

Heck, since I got 20's I might be interested in the group buy as well.

Wiki

Wiki, what kind of 20's do you have? It doesn't look like you updated your page since you got them. I am thinking about 22'', 180 spoke, tripple chrome, wire rims. What do you guys think? I haven't seen it done yet on an Av. Does it sound good or cheezy? I had onr friend say it sounds good and another called it "bling-CLINK". Any thoughts?

A guy named Doug from another forum emailed me asking about the springs for his Z-66. ?I am trying to help get us to the 10 person mark so I told him he could get in on the deal. ?I am waiting on responses from 1 other guys too, so our list is now:

1. cwally
2. TNAV03
3. Weedon
4. Zeeya2000
5. Alvin
6. Chris (EXT)
7. Wiki (are you in?)

Ok, we got 7 people so I will buy the last three sets so that we can get the group buy price (only because I know I can sell them easly). Is everyone still in? The price is $169+Shipping. If you want to start emailing your addresses to me I can get the shipping prices and we can start getting these puppies sent out. Ok?

Babar

Oh yeah, if you hear of anyone looking for these spring let me know so that I can get these extra three sets sold off. Thanks.
