First off, I know this is my fault. I'm just curious if anyone else has had a similar experience...

... or would just like to laugh and poke fun at me.

So, my team is moving to another building and we had to take our personal belongings home for the weekend. To make room for my taller plants, I folded the bottoms of the rear seats forward. This allowed me to put the plants right on the floor. Groovy, they fit! So far, so good.

Most of you have already figured out the ending. Shush, don't ruin it for the others.

Now, as we all know, raising the rear seat bottoms unlocks the latches holding up the seat backs. Sure enough, while coming to a stop light on the way home, one of the seat backs came vaulting forward and crushed my poor drac under its incredible mass.

Ok, so it's not that bad. The plant survived, and I realized that I'm kind of a dufus.

So here's the question. Anyone other than me considering a modification to the seat cables and latches? It seems that it'd be pretty easy to disconnect the cable from the seat bottom and affix a rubber tab to the end. You could still lift the seat bottom as always, but the seat back would remain locked in place. If you want to lower the seat back, pull the tab while pulling forward on the seat.

Yes? No? Maybe? Shuddup plant-lovin pansy-boy?

Shuddup plant-lovin pansy-boy!

That post completely cracked me up!

I am sure you can find a way to keep the seats back, but why didn't you just remove the 1 cover over the bed nearest to the back window and let them stand up. The other to covers would help to hold them in place, as well as using the tie down hooks in the bed.

Hey Fish,
On the on the outside of the seats nearest to the doors, are elastic seatbelt adjustment straps for when kids are sitting there. Have you looked to see if you can utilize the anchor points or something around that area?

Ya know . . I could have found my self with the same problem. If tall stuff that needs to be inside won't fit easily on the back seat floor, moving the seat cushions to get a more easily accessable spot makes sense. I probably wouldn't have thought of the seat backs falling at stoplights! Thanks for the heads up.

P.S. Sorry about the plant :-[

How about a little velcro tape on the seat backs, and on the midgate cross bar (do they touch?). I'm not near my Av now so I don't know if this would work. It would probably be strong enough to hold the seatback up, unless you drive like my wife. Every stoplight or stop sign, she tries to improve on her best 60 to 0 stopping time.
