As a new owner of a 2007 Avalanche I purchased it as many here did for the versatility.
Has anyone come up with a solution so the matal back part of the folded back seats lies flat?
Is there a solutiion to put something over the back part at the midgate where things fall to the floor or
the uneven surface makes boxes fall and shift? Any suggestions or links would be greatly appreciated.

First welcome to the website.
Some older threads talked about "the rear headrest mod" where you remove the headrests when lowering the backs of the rear seat so they sit a little flatter and you have more room when the front seats are back somewhat.Maybe you could try a cargo net organizer type thing hooked around front headrests to help hold stuff in place?
Otherwise you might want to consider a Bedslide type device for the bed with dividers or organizers so you can just put stuff in the bed and pull it out as needed without having to climb in and out of bed?
You may also want to read older threads about some members making plywood and carpeted panels to put over folded down rear seats so their dogs could ride inside cab too.

Lower the midgate or make the REAR DECK MOD out of wood and then carpet to put over the folded down seat.

Thanks. My headrest on the backseat tucks in flat. I am trying to improve the very back of the cab. Visualize trying to store 4 30lb boxes of copy paper or grocery bags. Everything shifts to the back, contents come out of bags, etc,. due to the construction of the seat frames where they meet the midgate. It seems I am going to build something custom. I would be surprised if someone on this group didn't try to do some modification. Thanks again for the reply and trying to help.

Nope Search MID-DECK, MIDDECK etc.

I found the Rear Deck Mod to be my most valued and used mod I have on my trucks.

Pictured here is my 60/40 carpet matched Rear Deck Mod in my 2004 EXT.

I use it so much that it is always installed in my truck unless it is one of those rare times I need the entire rear seating for passengers.

As you can see in this picture, with the 60/40 version of this mod, you can move the 40 section to gain access to the right side rear seat if a spot is needed for a third person in the vehicle.

I like this mod so much that I had one made for my 2003 Avalanche right after I bought it.

You can find these installed in both of my trucks all of the time.

When we travel, all of our luggage stacks up in the cab nicely and I can use the bed to haul everything else.

And it makes loading groceries and other cargo much nicer than just tossing everything into the rear seats and floorboard.

Here is a picture of the two sections before I installed the color matched carpeting.

I had mine made out of furniture-grade plywood and I bought bulk color matched automotive carpeting at Stock Interiors.

Since new my seat backs have never sat perfectly flat with my bed floor. I to remove them pull my front seats forward and put the back seats down with the headrests intact because I am too lazy to remove them. I then put my front seats all the way back to their original position. When I bought mine, I ordered a factory back seat storage cover and hood bra from Chevy, the cover is a super heavy duty Marine quality tarp. It wraps over and around the back set tops and sits on the backs and another 6 inches up the midgate. The sides cover the seat sides all the way to the floor. Nothing falls through, is more more than tough enough to have handled over a decade of construction tools loaded in and out daily. Zero punctures, rips, tears or fading. I do not know if they still sell them though. I have never seen anyone else with one.

Recently I decided to build slide out boxes in the bed and realized that 6 inch high drawers allow a plywood top that I slide forward when the midgate and seats are down and the plywood ends up at the top of the seat backs and sits perfectly level. Great for sleeping inside the backset/bed area when camping.

I had done this on my 05, I’m looking into getting a 13 now. There was a diagram of that panel, do you recall where it is?

firemedic this thread mentions plans but original poster hasn't been on site since 2008.....The thread does show photos and mentions how the template was made to make a deck.......
