I spoke with diablew tune today and I'm going to have him do a custom tune on my truck. The problem is, the truck was tuned before I purchased it. I don't know what was used or what was even done in the tune. I'm taking it to the dealership next week to have it flashed back stock so he can do the custom tune. Here's the question, with a full afm delete, when it's tuned back to stock and the computer tells it to switch into 4cyl mode, is that going to cause problems with the engine internally?

By full delete do you mean physically changed lifters etc?

As I typed that I thought I'm sure there's a video out there on exactly what happens during V4 mode that might let you see if your gonna have parts banging into each other?

Can you, after return to stock flash, only deactivate AFM and then reactivate before installing custom tune?

This may sound really dumb but I would think you could manually prevent V4 by left foot braking to stop and keeping a little throttle down with right for to prevent the V4 from activating? Mine won't kick in with any input on accelerator at all.. At least to get you home?

Yes, full mechanical delete. Cam and lifters. I've Google searched and haven't come up with anything.

I don't have an AFM engine, so I wouldn't know for sure, but seems that I have read that if you use tow/haul mode, the 4 cylinder mode is deactivated.

Maybe I just dreamed that, I don't know.

I cannot see how it would hurt engine since the solenoid valves computer is trying to control have been removed along with all the other parts.

May end up with error code?
With delete what if anything was done to computer?

Maybe let dealer know you had AFM delete kit removed

I think EXT4ME has best short term solution... and def easier than the driving with both feet thing I thought I was dreaming about typing

That's exactly what I was thinking. Logic says nothing will happen. But, who knows?

I didn't even think about this, but I believe you're correct!

The diablewtune is freaking awesome man, it was worth every penny. The truck is so much more responsive and the shift pattern is corrected.

Anyway for the Diablew custom tune, you have to install a canned tune from the DiabloSport Intune 3 (8245) before Lew can do his work anyway. When you install the canned tune from the 8245 you can choose to disable AFM. But if you have to drive before installing that canned tune, the tow/haul mode will work as already discussed above, but another option is to shift into 'M' and set 5 as the max gear which will also disable AFM without changing the shift pattern like tow/haul. Edit, nevermind I see you have a 2007 which would be the 4-speed transmission, leaving this in case it helps someone else though.

If you want to save a few bucks on the tuner, I bought the Diablosport 8245 remanufactured here https://www.ebay.com/itm/263421611740? for $249.

Good luck jbrash, and thanks for sharing all of your mods, love the new dash on your other thread.

Before I got my tuner, I used to keep my truck in "3" instead of "D"rive to keep the AFM from kicking in.

FYI - On my truck, using the tow/haul mode still allowed the AFM to kick in.

Thank you, BainMan!! It was totally worth the time. I love it! And I just ordered the diablo. It'll be here next Wednesday!

So, we have a consensus that if I just drive in 3rd and not overdrive everything should be ok? I really wish I had the 6L80.

So this is my 1st reply I know a vast amount about Chevrolet engines with the AFM volm system if you do a full delete Cam lifters and change out The Valley Pan You also Need to order a after market sensor plug that replace is the one for the volm system on your Valley this will do 2 things 1 it protects the electrical plug from it being shorted out to it also disables the AFM system I believe that is only around a 100 Bucks . this will not cause any internal damage to your engine but remember AFM engines have high velocity oil pump i recommend replacing the oil pump you can actually call your local dealership and they usually keep regular valley cover in stock because you cannot use the current one you have and they keep the LS7 lifters and oil pump in stock most of the time I have come to find out Ican actually buy the parts from Chevrolet IndividuallyAndCan save money instead of buying a kitFromSome places like Summit Racing
