Went to start truck this morning and it fires up, I then hear this awful thumbing sound. Shut off engine, pop hood, look around. Cat hair everywhere with one very dead feline entangled in fan. It was eighty degrees outside, I thought cats only climbed into engine compartments when it is cold. What a way to start the day.

It happens - the wife of an old acquaintence of mine will probably never forgive him for munching a cat of hers in a similar manner. Made quite a mess.

Dogs love Avs and Avs love cats...

No offense intended, I love all animals and it's very sad, but it happens. :cautious:

I once saw a CAT (3406B) run over a dog! Must be that circle of life thing. >:D

We have two cats, I hate em both :8:

Also have a dog

I am always fond of saying the only good cat is the one under my tires. Didn't think about engine compartment though.

P.S. For those of you offended by my comments, they are only comments. I wouldn't deliberatly go after and try to run over any animal... well maybe my mother in law .....but I still hate cats.

I was at a motel in Dallas a couple of weeks ago with my wife and son(teenager) and while we are in the parking lot one morning getting ready to leave, my son ask "Dad what's that hanging under the av?". I say "I don't know, but it looks like a hose dragging the ground." Well as we get closer to the av it doesn't look like a hose anymore its..its a cats tail hanging down and touching the ground. Not even a swish it just hangs there lifeless. I get on my hands and knees and see a cats hind legs hanging off of the skid plate. I look at the tail again and still no movement. I am thinking this cat is dead or something. I make some noise and go kitty kitty and finally the leg twitches. I make more noise and nothing that cat is on pluto or something. I reach under the av and grab the cat's tail.....there was a thump sound (I think the cat banged his head on the oil pan), a hiss, flying hair, and a blur. The cat ran over to the bushes and looked back to see what had had him. Boy that cat looked PO.

We've got two indoor cats - like the cats - don't care for irresponsible pet owners. IMO 'responsible pet owner' means fenced in dogs and indoor cats - this would sure save a lot of misery on the part of our four footed friends.

Wrchism, I'm with you. I am definitely a cat person. When we lived in base housing while in the USAF, what used to irk me to no end was stray cats. Why have a pet cat if it's just running around the streets? We fed a lot of them and had a couple who would hang around our house. Never became our pets though as they liked their independance.

Attached is our dear old girl who died a couple years ago. We got her the weekend before we got married and she lived 11 years.

I live in rural Oklahoma and of course here there is a lot of open space and I have always been of the opinion that animals should have as much freedom as humans. Why should animals be imprisoned? If dogs like to run around and chase deer and rabbits... let them. I f cats want to chase bugs, eat mice and birds....let them

I have a cat that has lived by these rules for 16 years and it seems pretty happy.

This is all just my opinion so please don't take it wrong.

I thought this didn't ever REALLY happen. ?:cautious: ?

Unfortunately....yeah...it does. My dad accidently killed two of my mom's cats this way about week apart. I don't think she spoke to him for a month.

OK, since we're giving opinions about pets, here's my (unpopular) one:

People and animals should not reside together. Pets aren't worth the trouble, they make a mess, they are stupid, they can't take care of themselves, etc. etc. etc.

That said, I  our two Whippets (usually). Humans are so illogical sometimes

If you live out where there are deer and rabbits to chase, letting your pet loose isn't as big a deal. ?In a city or town however, they cause irritation to neighbors at the least, and at the worst, they can endanger themselves and motorists when they run in the street.

I let my dog loose in the park when we go for a walk (which is technically illegal) so he can run, but leaving your pet out all the time to wander the streets is irresponsible.

Rich... a puppy or kitten may need some care, but they are sure a hell of a lot more self-sufficient than a baby human! (and smarter too, IMO) ;)

Yeah, my wife gives me that one too when I complain(they're really her dogs, incidentally). My reply is always the same...the baby has potential, dogs don't.

Granted I don't think dogs can take care of themselves, but cats on the other hand are real survivors. I have a stray tom that lives in my barn that is the healthiest cat I have ever seen. Mice must be high in protein

That's true! hehe :D

However, the cost of the dogs will remain relatively constant, where the cost of a child will increase over time.... so you're paying for that blossoming "potential". :) There are two things I like about my dog... he doesn't talk back and he doesn't have thumbs (dogs would get in much more trouble if they had an opposable thumb... think about it ) ;)

I like kids too... as long as I can give them back to their parents when they start to be a PITA ;)

Crexis, you are forgetting though that kids, when they get older, become useful for a few years. From about 8 - 14, they like helping out. At least ours do. I haven't cut the grass in a few years now! I still help out with shoveling, but I like a little workout in the cold. I say useful for a few years as when they get over 14ish, I have a feeling they aren't going to be around as much as their friends are going to be more important for a little while.

OK, cats can be useful...

I work in the field office of a very large construction project ($500+ million). Couldn't control the mouse issue until, you guessed it, stray cats! It's kinda creepy, though...they walk around inside and out like they own the place and everyone just acts like they aren't even there. We supplement their "natural" diets with cat food to keep them around. Some of the "cat people" in the office pamper them some too :9:

I think cats are fairly neat creatures, but I'd never have one in my house. Oh, wait, I said that about dogs too

only in this country, will we pile our garages full of crap, and park $30k+ vehicles in the driveway.

I am lucky that all of my vehicles fit in my garage. really takes care of ever having to worry about a shreaded cat in my engine compartment.

And as an owner of 2 cats, 2 dogs, some fish, a bird and a ferret, I wish all pet owners would take responsibility for their animals and keep them penned on their own property. (and yes, all the animals get along. they have been raised together).
