See The Battleship Texas berthed on the bustling Houston Ship Channel at the Park's western border. A veteran of both World Wars, she was once the most powerful and respected warship afloat.

She saw action at the Allied invasion of North Africa, the famous D-Day invasion of France and was a key participant in the Pacific at Iwo Jima and Okinawa. A pioneer in technological advances for its time, the Navy presented her to the people of Texas in 1948 as a Museum. Thanks to Bruno for all his background work on this :D. We will post more details as we have them. The trip to the race track afterwards is still open - although it will be later Sunday and some out of towners will need to go back - but all who are game we can work out the details. Anyone wanting to come in on Saturday night we can plan a club dinner on Sat night and maybe some local entertainment venue - this depends on interest. So if you are intested in something like this - let me or Bruno know asap.

I have added those I know who are coming for sure and those who are considering - if you are there and are not coming or you are coming and not on the list please let me know.

Put me down for this one. Not sure how many maybe 1 or maybe 4. I will let you know when we get closer.

How can you say it takes Killer 1.5 to 2 hours to go 75 miles? more like 45 minutes >:D

Man your right what was I thinking? :2: Of course I was thinking of how long it takes me to go to Beaumont from Katy - my mother lives over there north of Beaumont and thats how long it tkes us to get there. It takes almost 1 hour to get across Houston in traffic. ;)

They do have grills located at the park grounds by the Battleship and Monument area. There is also a pavillion - I am checking first of next week on availability and discount prices for a group. I will post additional information as it comes in. My thoughts were a trip over - tour the ship and monument and then eating at the park - each person or family bringing food either to share or for themselves. Prepared food would be best, sandwiches and chips, bring plenty of drinks. The cook out idea is an option just not sure how nice the grills are. After the picnic and pictures are taken then a trip to the Drag strip for those so inclined.

Thanks, Richard

Wish this cruise was on March 9. Have a condo on beach in Galveston rented for March 9-14. Have to be back to work on the 15th. Used to live just up the San Jacinto River from these two great monuments. Have fun and wear comfortable shoes. A lot of stairs on the battleship. Is the Lynchburg Ferry Restaurant still there? Used to have good seafood.

Sorry to hear that - hey why not call in sick and go back on Sunday >:D

Hey Dave02z66 - do me a favor and send this cruise info to your group - you can either work up one of your famous flyers or just copy the 1st post and send that. Maybe you could work up the Poteet Festival as well. ;) :D ;D
Thanks.
After all this it will be your turn to get something together again in Big D for July after our Regional - course after all your work on the regional you might have to take a vacation - or get back to a job just to get a rest. ;) Hope your job search is going well. If they only knew ya like we know ya they would snatch you up in a heartbeat. (y)

Does that mean we have to keep all the dirty little secrets to ourselves?

Working on that now as we speak. Thanks
I sure would like to work something out for the Fourth of July up this way, but that is the weekend following the SRR 2003.
I know I am going to put together a picnic at a local park where there is a giant Pavillion which can be reserved for an event. I will check to see what the availabilty is. It will be a pot luck event.
And my next vacation after I get a job and my degree (should graduate in June) will be to head back to Australia again. Maybe this time pay Skidd a visit to see his Right hand drive AV! ;)
