When I was washing my AV's box today I noticed that the bed mat has some stuff in the cracks and I know it is removable but I was wondering how hard it is to put in and take out and has any one done it??

I did! Its heavy but it falls right back into position when you put it back in. Make sure to line up the tire tracks becouse it needs to be in there right to allow the drains to work right.

WOW that was fast thanks for your help did you have to take out the drain gate behind the mid-gate?

nope, I just folded it over and pulled it out. I think I had the midgate down.

I just took mine out about a week ago. When I pulled it out, the bed (steel) had a waffle pattern on it from the bottom of the bed mat. I hand waxed it and the pattern went away. I had read in another thread before about water trapped down there and thought it would be good to have a coat of wax on it.

I had mine out once too . . my recollection is that it was a bit of a pain to get relocated exactly but certainly do-able.

I have taken the rubber mat out several times. Yes, it is pretty heavy but I'm sure you can manage it, especially if I can manage it myself ;). Sometimes it can be difficult to get it back in right especially if you still have your tonneau cover on and the midgate is up so I would either lower the midgate or take off a couple panels. I also took out the drain gate behind the midgate. It almost seems like that's sorta what keeps the mat latched down other than it's heavy weight.

You pulled it out with the hard cover on?? You must of had a lot of fun doing that. Yes the mat is a bit on the heavy side, I also managed it. Let me tell you that was one clean bed once I was finished.

Yep, I crawled right in there and took off the drain gate then crawled back to the tailgate and slid it out. That part isn't much of a problem for me - it's the part of getting it back in with no lowered midgate or removed panels that's pretty hard (but it's very possible :D).

CoAv, what exactly did you take your mat out for??

I took out my bed panels and went down a dusty road all the dust got in my bed.

I toke out my bed panels and went down a dusty road all the dust got in my bed.

We were travelling long distance with the midgate lowered. There were a bunch of firewood chips and dirt back there so in order to make it more civilized and cleaner, I had to take out the bed mat and clean it off.

I've removed my mat and the drain cover dozens of times. Usually with all three covers on and midgate down. I do this as part of my bed drying procedure. After a rain, we'll get rain under the mat. I remove the mat and set it upside-down on top of the bed covers to dry out. I then dry the bed with a cloth and let it dry out. Since I don't have need to drive the Av everyday, it sometimes sits like this for several days.

Lance, I recently did this (removed the mat) so I could wash all the sand out of the bed. I don't know about you, but somehow, I had sand everywhere. I pulled the mat out at the coin-op carwash and clipped the mat into the 4 floormat clips they have attached to the stall wall. I then sprayed it off, soaped it, scrubbed it, and rinsed it. I did the same [obviously] to the bed. It took a lot of spraying and I stlil didn't get the bed sand free.

I took it home (where I have free water), and got a hose on a low pressure/no nozzle and washed out the bed some more. Got rid of more sand. Thought I had it all, dried it off, and parked it in the garage to dry some more. Guess what? I see I still have sand. I'm gonna try to vacuum the rest of it out with my shopvac.

I've removed the forward drain cover many times too--it just snaps into place with some rubber grommets and pins. I've also removed the spring-loaded midgate/cab "bridge" with the 6 or 7 torx screws that hold it in. Sometimes you have to remove this to clean underneath it too. I'm thinking that with all this sand, this is one of those times.

Good luck.

Brendan

P.S. I've had the waffle pattern from the mat since day one. Good to hear some wax will take it off.

I have removed the mat several times to get the condensations and buildup out from under the mat....I probably need to do this more often actually....I was amazed how much can get under there....

The mat wasn't heavy at all.. ;) I never really messed with the drains....just made sure everything was in order upon completing my task etc.....

OK you all really know how to make a guy feel :9: ?I have major snow all over the place salt and sand applied to the roads daily and a drought restriction in place that makes it illegal to wash the AV :8: ?I will not use self serve car washes or automatics so I have had to take my AV to Virginia to get it washed twice already this year ?:B: ?Be thankfull you can clean at all......

Back when I could, ?I have removed the bed mat to clean it and the bed under it.

man that is too bad that you can't wash your AV it should be illegal to wash any thing but chevy's >:D

Now AvaLance - the fun part is getting the mat back in >:D. Taking it out is relatively simple - it's the getting the mat back in part that you won't like

2 things I noticed about the bed mat:

1. That sucker is heavy! It does help if somebody is there to lend a hand ?(y) (y)

2. There are grooves in the mat that assist in the water management system. Putting it back in, you can easily place it facing the wrong way. The key is to look at the grooves in the mat. They need to face in the same direction as the one in the midgate and tailgate--kinda like the scales of a fish going the same direction....

Hey Spectron, now that is some good advice. I went out to the AV and checked if I had it right. I did have it in right LOL. I won't forget to check that the next time I remove the mat.
