Hey guys, working on tightening up the bed seals. All my latches are corroded and the coating is flaking off. i was thinking of sanding them down and coating them in POR15.

secondly, the rollers are all locked/rusted. Is anyone aware of replacement rollers and pins? They look easy enough to drill out or drift out. I just have no idea where I’d get new ones!

in summary, what should I use to refinish the strikers and does anyone know of parts to replace the rollers?

thanks!

Ebay or junk yards are your best bet. I don't think these are parts available on the aftermarket.

I'd say to restore those rollers if at all possible. Maybe wire wheel them clean then dip them in whatever coating you think would best suit longevity. My coating knowledge ends with automotive paints and clears and that is outdated by several years... I do know restoring an original art provides me satisfaction as I see how I've done and sometimes even make the part better in function or form.

It's a bittersweet challenge we all have keeping our Av's in good shape. We have the chore of locating parts in good condition to replace the old worn out parts and also the factor of finances to do so, but when it's all said and done, we find ourselves making our AV's last. Partly because we enjoy it but also because we have an affinity to them. Being such a newb to the AV scene compared to most of you here, I find myself getting lost in the post threads but learning so much about the truck. They have personality which seems to grow on us.

I've owned lots of vehicles over my lifetime and some where true gems after I was done with them, like my 84 nissan datsun pickup or my 99 sentra se-r, but most were just beaters and didn't seem to have the same pull on me as the AV does. . The AV though has completely won me over and I find myself doing all sorts of things to it as my time permits. When I did the cladding coating in bed liner, I removed the sail fins and upper peices then reconstructed the plastic clips that were broken using epoxy.

My thinking as well. After examination, I need to get a couple junkyard spares. These things go for $10+ each on eBay. The pins/roller axles look like a pain to drift out, especially with rust and corrosion. I’d have to work on drilling to get to the roller to see what I can do. It may be awhile as I have bigger fish to fry, but if/when I get to it, I’ll update.
