Ok, So Ive seen 3 Styles of Subwoofer set ups.
1) Under the Seat Up or Down Fire - most of these dont allow the midgate to fold down all the way without extremely custom boxes. - requires Shallow Mount woofers.
2) Behind the Rear Seat with Midgate still installed (box goes from 1" thick at top to 6-1/2" deep at bottom, and locks in using the midgate locks - Midgate is NOT removed or altered. - Required Shallow Mount Woofers
3) Replace midgate with a Box. - Any Woofer possible.

My Question is with type #2 above - Behind the Seat set up where the Midgate is left alone.

I see alot of people are happy with the sound of the under seat bozes, but has anyone heard or compared the behind the seat box? They both have just about .65-.7 CuFt per woofer, and are shallow mount.

Thanks for any comments or opinions.

I dont feel like removing the midgate for a huge setup unless I just cant live with the shallow woofer sound.

Here is a link to the Mid-Gate mounting Box I am asking about.

Its got .7 cuft per side, and mounting depth is 5-1/4. Will fit the exact same size woofer as the under-seat design.

So, question is...does anyone have this type of box, and does it sound good?

I currently have a Dual 12" Rockford Setup with 3cuft box in my GS, and its loud, but not overly so...I want bass to cover full range...not the uni-tone boom box sound.

Thanks - DK

I don't know anyone with that box. I almost bought one but found a used subthump midgate replacement unit.

Would be interested in checking it out if you do get one.

love the site :D

I think it will sound just as good. I think under the seat is just an easier cheeper option for some people and thats why they pick it. The under seat boxes are cheeper then that one. I seen some as cheep as $50. As for replacing the midgate thats a whole different thing. By doing that you open yourself up to a whole lot of subwoofer options with alot more power.

Also there is a 4th option and that is doing something in the bed of the truck.

Thanks for the replies.

The nice thing about that Box design, is that it doesnt require any modification or removal of the midgate at all. It literally latches onto the midgate where the lock knowbs are, and the bottom rests on the floor behind the rear seats.

This box actually has more air space per woofer than most of the under-the seat designs. Ive also seen where most of the under-seat designs dont allow the rear seat to fold down all the way when you want to use the midgate....BUT....in the even your hauling a quad and want the bass on while your driving 300 miles into the desert, you still have bass.

Ahhh..the joys of wanting it all, and eating it too! >:D

Anymore comments much appreciated.

By the way...and Im not trying to be stupid here, but I cant seem to get images to post into my messages here...My Clublexus account is easy to do, but when I click the "insert image" button on this site all I get is this:

Am I supposed to type in the full hard-drive path there? I tried that and didnt get it to work either.
:help:

Thanks all

Easiest way is to click the "Additional Options" under the area you type the reply. Browse to the picture you want to post and then click post.
Remember: Allowed file types: txt, jpg, gif, pdf, mpg, png, zip, wmv, wma
Maximum attachment size allowed: 100 KB, per post: 6

Not to change subject on the speaker enclosre, but I tried the add'l options and it only has 3 boxes to click:

Nowhere to brows for an image.

When I click on the "insert image" Icon in the set of buttons above my message text box, it inserts this:
[ img ] [/img ] --> Thats the text it inserts into the body of my message...nowhere to browse for the file name.

I also for the life of me, cant find where I can set a default forum/topic when I log in. And I cant find where I can click on threads and "subscribe" to them.

Im Lost....I use Club Lexus and several other forums all the time so Im familiar with them in general, I just cant find certain things here...HELP!!! :help:

If you have the picture on a website somewhere then use the insert image button. If you have it on your computer and want to upload it in the thread then there is a button on the bottom of the area where you type your post that says "Additional Options" and you can attach a picture there that will show in your post.

Hope this helps.

Thats the problem, when I click on the Additional Options button/link, only 3 boxes pop up, the 4th box for attachments is missing.

It appears the additional optional full list won't appear until you have reached a certain number of posts. Currently I see you are at 13. The "certain number" is a mystery so I can't tell you what it is.. Sorry.

Hello? Anyone....Any AV owners with this Box?

There has to be some out there...3 different places make the box...

Or did they make this box and never sell one?  :help:

I don't remember who it was but someone bought a box like that off e-bay and it didn't fit in there truck right. There was a thread about it.

I found a thread about an older style of that box that didnt fit exact.

This box is "guaranteed" perfect fit, and from the 360deg pics Ive seen, it has the slots on the back of it to allow room for the bumps on the midgate.

If it dont fit, it gets shipped back, and I will belly ache for my shipping...Im just curious about sound.

It has more cuft than the 8" boxes, and the cuft per enclosure is very important for overall bass sound especially for lower frequencies.

What Im really debating is putting 10's under the seat, or behind the seat.

This one could remove in 1 or 2 minutes, and be placed to the side when the midgate is down, where the ones under the seat prevent the midgate from going down all the way.

I need more space! HAHA :E:

I havnt bought them yet...so any other replies would also be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again CAFCNA !!!

I found the thread I was looking for. Here read this one......... http://www.chevyavalanchefanclub.com/cafcna/index.php/topic,108878.0.html

Thank you! I had NOT seen that thread.

Its funny because Im debating between Car Audio Factory and the other one....all roads lead to Car Audio Factory at this point IF I go with the behind seat version.

Anyone that is interested, here is the Link and Pic of the one from Car Audio Factory, if I get it, I will post pics of the fit.
http://caraudiofactory.com/022009-chevy-avalanche-cadillac-p-226.html?osCsid=7

For now, Im just hoping I can hear back from people with the behind seat box as to sound quality. I dont think Im gunna get what my GS300 has, but Id like better than what an 8" can give. (y)

I made this box myself and am quite pleased with the output for two tens.

Here is a link to the thread with some specs:
http://www.chevyavalanchefanclub.com/cafcna/index.php/topic,95539.0.html

And here is a pic:
3006366_3_full.jpg

The box is held onto the back wall by the tabs that the back window slides into.  The box can easily be removed by one person simply by lifting up then out.

I previously had a single 10, upfiring, and was not pleased with the output. I dont like alot of boom where people can hear me down the street, but I like enough bass to compliment the music.

Thank you, I will take a look at those specs too.!!!

Its nice to see a lot of peoples ideas and responses...I dont want to rattle the car next to me to death, but I want to rock out to metallica damn it! haha  >:D

:jacked:  HAHA - Just kidding.

Im weary of boxes that have too many curves...seems like it could resonate....but maybe not.
