i have 10,000 miles on av 2500 8.1 ltr.the belt sqeeks at idle, i think belts should laST APROX. 25,000 MILES.
ANYONE ELSE WITH THIS PROBLEM
THANKS RICH

I have had two different dealers at two times each replace the belt in the first 20,ooo mi. even after each replaced the belt once they refuse to acknowledge that the problem lies elsewhere - pulley alignment or a bad bearing/pulley. Chevy service stinks - they have figured out that if they never really fix these things, most people will just go away. Not however this one. Quest for quality service will go on!!

Brought my 2500 to the dealer at 10k miles for belt squeeling. Belt dressing solved the problem for a while but is kept coming back. They adjusted the automatic tensioner and replaced the belt with an (as the invoice stated) updated serpentine belt replacement. SOOOO, it seems to me that something might have been wrong with the stock belt. Just my two cents - but so far (16k miles) it hasn't returned.

On another note, dealer service was AWESOME. When it was in for the belt problem, they were also able to fix a "creek" that was coming from the back of the cab. Turns out there were a couple of misaligned body panels that were rubbing and could be heard any time I took a corner. According to the dealer, they had just about half the truck disassambled to try to find it! Now THAT'S service!

Good luck with the belt problem!

?Eric

Darn, I had this problem also.

At 6,000 miles I took my AV to the dealer and they replaced the belt and alternator. ?

While I was in the service bay with the tech explaining to me what the problem was another AV right next to mine was in for the same problem.

Here is the confusing part, when he replaced the alternator and belt on mine the squeak went away on the other one it did not ???

Low and behold at 12,000 miles the squeak returned :7: ?This time they indicted that GM had a fix for this problem, it called for replacing the belt with one that is 5MM shorter then the original. ?They replaced the belt, squeak gone.

When I got home I looked for a TSB on this issue but there is none, now I am worried if the dealer did the right thing and if the smaller belt will cause any future problems ?:cautious:

I had the same problem at about 5k and according to the work order the dealer replaced the serpentine belt with "a slightly smaller belt". I have about 17k now with no squeek.

I have the squeak also and have not done anything with it yet. It is not that bad and I did not notice it until it was brought to my attention.

Darn, My AV is al the dealer now and I forgot to tell him about the squeek. Thanks guys for the reminder, I will be calling him this morning.

Oh, and yes my 2500 squeeks too.

I've only one comment for those using any kind of 'rub on' belt dressing that gets your fingers close to the pulleys while the engine is running . . BE CAREFUL.

I don't know about serp belts, but I did have a friend run his gloved hand thru an old V-belt only to shake his fingertips out on the garage floor - successfully reattached, but OUCH!

:6:MY 8.1 STARTED SQUEAKING AT ABOUT 10,00MI. ALSO, ! I TOOK IT IN TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY REPLACED MY ALT. ( I WAS HAPPY.) STILL SQUEEKS UNTIL THE MOTOR IS COMPLETELY WARM! (195*) SLEDGE (OPEN TO SUGGESTIONS) 2002 BLACK 8.1LTR. K&N FIPK, TUNED CHIPSTER, BIG TIRES w/A BAD ATTITUDE!

Well, I did call the dealer to add the squeeking belt to the list and my Service Writer seemed to act like he had heard it before and would take care of it. Suppose to get my AV back today so I will seee what they did and let you all know.

I sure hope I get it back today, this lowriding Buick is starting to get on my nerves.

Im on my 3rd belt and idler pulley with only 16k miles. I wonder if the 8.1 suburbans and pick up have the same stuff going on...
