Bench/bucket seats

Here's a ? for all of you.
Does anyone know if the bucket seats are the "same" size as the benchs (in regards to the driver and pass) seats.

Based on what I seen at the dealer(pictures only) they DO appear to be the same.

I don't know if they are the same size, but from looking at the service manual there are some striking similarities:
  • Both the bench and bucket seats appear to use the same mounting points.
  • The center console for buckets is mounted to a metal plate that goes over the inner pair of seat mounting bolts, and under the seats. It is held in place by the seats.
  • The center seat for the bench also goes over the inner pair of seat mounting bolts, and under the outer seats. It is also held in place by the seats.
Given how similar they appear to be, I have often wondered if a console could be swapped for a center seat, and vice-versa. It might also be possible to swap buckets and outer bench seats, but you will probably run into wiring issues.

Of course, this is all theory based on reading the 2002 shop manual. In reality, such swaps may not be possible. Also, 2003 may be different.

But it is an interesting concept...

I don't know anyone personally that has bench seats but I have read posts here that they are not comfortable for some "bigger" people. I don't think I have heard the same for the buckets.

THanks guy's..., I should of been more specific.

What I was thinking was this, would it be possible to just order the leather skins for the buckets and put them on the bench.

I know the arm rest issue, and the back seat is not a problem and that I would have to do something else with the center seat.

I would doubt that you could order the skins, but I'm fairly certain you could find an aftermarket shop that could put leather on your bench seat. That's actually not a bad idea for someone who wants leather but likes the bench configuration :0:

I do not think this is possible. The two seats are very different. They do make a aftermaket bench leather seats for the Av. I know there is a member that has installed them on his Av with bench seats. I was thinking about doing that as well because I have cloth bench seat. I think there were even pictures of the install on this site. Try doing a search for bench leather seats. I think Katskin was the aftermarket leather that was used.
