Best bang for the buck

Just bought my 02 absolutely love the truck my dad had one also loved it at the moment having new trans put in but after it gets out the shop going to look more into intake and exhaust my biggest debate im having so far is the tuner chip i wanna go with i do like what ive read so far on the diablo trinity t 1000 but from what ive heard custom tune is the only way to go with that just wanted to know a lil more about the whole aspect of tuning and what all i need to additionally look into if i wanna go with tuning the truck since im using it for work not wanting to have tons of issues

I'll refer you to the chart provided by fishntools - see reply #12 on this page:

I don't know how that will help you but he was pretty adamant that it was necessary.

That aside, I'd say custom tune versus handheld depends upon how many modifications you are going to make performance-wise.  If you aren't going to do much more than free-er breathing intake and exhaust then the handheld will work well for you.  If you go much further, or want to dive deeper into is such as the engineer in me has, then custom tuning, either done by someone else or yourself is the way to go.

Thanks alot alot way better anwser i was hoping for than go buy this stick it on this and call jimmy at shade tree performance

To correct what is confusing about that statement in my mind.... stock blower pulley, stock heads, stock cam, stock exhaust manifolds, stock block, stock fan, stock torque converter, and crap tune supplied by Vortech.....

With crap tune and an $80.00 pulley you get this....

I know this thread is old as dirt but I'm reaching out for SOMEBODY in this forum lol okay this is stock injectors and a tune at 7psi on 93 correct?? Was there any problems with the maf screen? Does that mod have to be done before boosting the 5.3? Also if I were to turbo this instead of supercharge what size turbo and A/R am I looking at to hit low-mid rpm (2200rpm) at 7 psi?

FlaBouy hasn't been active here for quite a while but I am somewhat familiar with what he did - I've ridden in his truck.  I can't say for sure but it is highly unlikely that he used stock 5.3 engine injectors.  Often stock injectors from a larger GM marine engine rated at 42 pounds are used as a relatively cheap upgrade - I used them for quite a while before realizing I needed to go even bigger.  I should have them lying around the garage somewhere - just took them out of the truck late last year when I caught a black Friday deal from Injector Clinic for 58 pound units.

Typically there isn't a problem with the MAF screen, either with or without, as long as tuned for whichever.

I'm not a turbo specialist so I can't answer your turbo question but you may want to look at sizes of diesel truck turbos as the low end is where they do their work.

Oh okay, my main goal is to make the engine more efficient for fuel economy so bigger injectors are out of the question. I mean I could run less psi sounds like 4-5 psi would still make 345hp to the wheels but that's a lot of money, still less than headers/manifolds and cams probably but still
