Best bang for the buck

I'd have to agree with the others - a higher-stall torque converter would give you the most instant bang for the buck.

You could also go to lower gears like 4.10s if you don't already have them. They would provide a noticeable overall difference if you have 3.42s and even provide a noticeable off-the-line acceleration difference over 3.73s.

So does that mean that you will get a converter in yours before we race at the Nashville GTG in May?

(how's that for pressure?)

That would have to be a converter AND HPTuners AND someone to help me tune it properly. And don't forget the smaller pulley also. I still haven't ordered the converter yet but do plan to get everything installed this spring. My dilemma is that I currently have no way to adjust the part-throttle shift points after I get the higher stall in place. I will also have to send the Superchips tuner back to Magnuson to get the shift pressures turned back down to stock.

I've been running back and forth to the farm too much to take the truck out of commission. I just got a 7' rear blade on flea-Bay tonight and have to make a run to North-Central IL to pick it up.

Are you volunteering to trailer me back to St. Louis if I grenade the rear end or anything else?

Tell you what I'll do. ?If we agree on this, I'll tow a car trailer with me. ?The first one to break something, has to tow the other home.

I'm fully aware that I could break a sun gear, input shaft, or output shaft (or any number of other parts).

There are other guy's that have radical setups. ?You and I would be a cool race. ?You have tons more on the bottom than me but I feel like I have a little more high rpm. ?I'm not a bragger or looking to got into a pissing contest. ?I think that you and I would be the race.

Should I bring the parts to build a trans too?  And yes it will be a fun race to watch >:D I'm sure there will be quite a few >:D

I also think it would be a close race as I sit right now - my Radix and install is still totally stock. Your stall will help you quite a bit off the line versus my stock 1600.

I'm also not interested in a pissing contest or looking for bragging rights as there's always someone out there who can go faster than you. I really want to get to the track just to find out exactly what this 6000 lb beast can do in the 1/4. I know you will have an advantage over me as you've run at the track before and I've never been on one. I would have to practice my launches before going. I think launching in 4X4 is the way to go but I also think brake torquing in 4X4 is a really good way to break lots of still-stock parts. For me it would really be all for the fun.

I don't take this stuff serious, this is all in fun.

If you want to come here, I can adjust your shift points and line pressures for you.? My HPT is licensed for all '02 Avalanches, so the total cost would be a cold beer.? Sound fair?

Sounds fair to me. Now I just have to get the time to  get there.  :0: Of course the cost of the gas there and back could go towards a fund for purchasing HPTuners myself!

i just purchased an 07 ls avalanche .... my past truck was a 99'gmc z-71 ext i put borla exhst airraid tbs k& n cold intake and noticed more power also better gas mileage.. my question is this im buying 2" lift for front and trying to acquire a set of factory chevy 20"s for the truck just for looks . i would like some advice on the best way t get some better mpg's and a lil more horse wont hurt for lets say around 1g to start with .... i love this truck so far and do not ever intend to take it where the gmc went so its gonna stay street i live in buffalo so it does have 4wd what would be some good places to start??

To correct what is confusing about that statement in my mind.... stock blower pulley, stock heads, stock cam, stock exhaust manifolds, stock block, stock fan, stock torque converter, and crap tune supplied by Vortech.....

With crap tune and an $80.00 pulley you get this....

you say all stock with "80.00 pulley" and a "crap tune"  what pulley exactly and what in the world is a crap tune ???

Has anyone tried the electric turbos? They say they put out 5 PSI which would be good if you had a tuner already. The engine should be able to take it and you can get them for pretty cheap. I can see maybe putting a larger alternator too. Here is a link to what I am talking about http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/PERFORMANCE-TRUCK-ELECTRIC-AIR-INTAKE-SUPERCHARGER-KIT-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem3a63ba8cb7QQitemZ250781273271QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

or this one if you want to go big

Does anyone know the cheapest route to adding turbo/superchargers other than make shift pulling parts from junk yards?

Is a set of under drive pulleys really worth the money and if so where is the best and cheapest place to get a set? I appreciate the responses.

Vortech supperchargers dont last long when the bearings go not if.. When its about another two thousand dollars to have them rebuilt. And when u blow all thar money for more power u might as well blow some more in a new trans and motor. Blowers are ticking time bombs on a stock bottum end.
