Best oil and filter for 5.3 afm ?

define what makes them "BEST"

There are a mountain of old threads discussing the "best" oil and filters in this section and you might want to spend some time reading them...:)

Otherwise it becomes : :deadhorse:

I use Mobil 1, full synthetic and a Wix filter, the Fram filters are known for coming apart, the inner filter linings are made of cardboard and the glue deteriorates. I change it every 7k miles. The synthetic oil says it will go 15k miles but I don't trust that theory. I have a 2010 with 240k miles on it and it doesn't use a drop between changes.

Where does this FRAM filter is crap stuff come from?

If you define "best" as the price to performance ratio, I present Supertech Full Synthetic as a challenger. Under $15 for 5 quarts and it is actually great oil.

With evidence (Project Farm):

Thanks...I have also used Mobil 1
In the past with good luck

Peeps do not know what is best in oil filters until they learn about BETA ratios and NAS cleanliness.

in hydraulic world we have lots of standards on how to rate filter elements. that is why I do not buy what anyone say about oil filters for vehicles until they have a specification.

What’s the best?
Hi mileage synthetic or
Synthetic or just regular oil?
2013 5.3 60k on engine
Thanks!
That has been philosophical chewing gum for years. Best is one thing to one person and something totally different with some one else. There are articles written on oil filters, oils, oil additives... the list is endless with this subject. Purolater makes a filter that filters down to a pretty small particle. Other filters more/... less. Fram has a big reputation, btw thy make NAPA's in house brand, they just added a P/N if memory serves...

I've never heard of FRAM making NAPA house brand filters.

I've heard that WIX does.

I use NAPA Platinum filters in all of our vehicles.

I cut open my old oil filters.

They look just like the straight up WIX filters, part for part, that I have seen in online reviews and nothing like FRAM filters.

Info about Oil filters:
Beta ratio: https://www.machinerylubrication.co...at removing particles five microns and larger.

Pretty much all you need is to choose oil filter to make up your own mind what is best for you:
- beta ratio for various micron sizes
- Pressure drop versus flow rate curve
- filter media type
- seal material

Problem is manufacturers do not publish any data about filter performance.

The filter rule.
Without changing filter size; to increase filter's dirt catching ability means to increase the pressure drop.

Ahhhhh to geek out on filters.
